VDOT wants to modify the intersection of VA 36 and VA 144 just outside of Fort Lee into a split intersection and I was wondering what that was????

From what I got out of that basically this is a bad idea for that intersection both VA 36 and VA 144 are major roads there :wow:

^^ I typed "split intersection" in Google, and that and two other websites -- that seemed to repeat the same info -- popped up. Maybe you might have a bit more success than I did.

Be well,

Not really except that it was fully funded by the stimulus and that it will be a split intersection from the Progress Index(The main Petersburg/ Colonial Heights Newspaper outside of the Richmond Times-Dispatch)

Almost every single intersection here is split (I didn't know until reading this post that it was a specific type of interchange.) Through traffic moves quicker because of no turn phase. The drawback is that turning left usually involves being caught on red 2 or 3 times and turn traffic from both sides wrap (blocking) the intersection, but the way the lights are timed the turning traffic empties out before the through traffic rolls through

It's the poor man's diamond interchange! :spin:
If you always take the same road, you will never see anything new.
