Why is U.S. Route 412 NOT connected to US 12?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the 400 series of US routes are not considered spur routes unlike the other 3dus routes.

IIRC, 163 is numbered as such as that was its prior state route designation.

I'm not aware of any interstate upgrade to 412.

I did not know it was a HPC even though there is a lot of work on 412 in NWA. I drove 412 from Springdale to New Mexico and it's a nice drive until it goes to a two lane bear the panhandle. I've heard of making 412 from Tulsa to Springdale I-38 but that's been a while. But when 49 is complete who knows?

Yeah when you consider that the original eastern terminus in 1982 was Dyersburg where I-69 is being built it makes a little bit more sense.  The route was extended to Woodward, OK back in 1989 which made a crossing of Tulsa and the I-49 corridor.  Guess plans for roadways don't work out sometimes three decades on.
I don't understand the purpose of western 412. Using Bugos term, 412 is "piggybacked" to other US routes from Woodward OK to it's I-25 termini.

US 412 was extended into Oklahoma to promote tourism. So sayeth the Transportation Commission.

It probably should have become a 60 series 3 digit route when US 412 was blown out to New Mexico.  I don't disagree with the logic of having a US Route out in the panhandle like that but it should have been a different number; especially when it got away from that high priority corridor logic.  Funny...would 432, 450, 462, 475, 487 and 500 be next in the chain if the AASHTO kept up with this High Priority series of route numbers?  They seem to like intervals of 12.5 for some reason now.

U.S. 412 is already freeway-grade along the Cimarron Turnpike all the way to Interstate 35.

Actually, there is a short expressway section of US 64 in Osage County.

412 is 4-Lanes divided from the White River to just west of Huntsville, AR , though predominantly at-grade crossings.
