Title: US 9 and GSP photos
Post by: dgolub on August 03, 2013, 11:07:07 AM
I recently uploaded some photos of US 9 and the Garden State Parkway that I took on the way back from the Brick/Wall road meet to my site at http://www.greaternyroads.info.  There are also a few shots of Business NJ 33, CR 537, and CR 522 in Freehold.  Enjoy!

Your photo there of US 9 NB at the Parkway NB Entrance ramp in South Amboy is interesting.  The trailblzer for the NJ Turnpike says to stay ahead on US 9, but it is easier to go onto the Parkway to Exit 129.  Considering that both roads are the NJTA now, it would have been fixed to point onto the ramp with a TRUCK note to stay ahead like at the former Clark Township Circle ramp to the Parkway SB had a NJT shield with two arrows both for Cars (SB Ramp) and Trucks (via Union CR 613 SB).

Great photos!

Probably they didn't want to confuse people.  People get lost in New Jersey enough as it is.

The same goes at the Northern Terminus of NJ 36 at Keyport.  At NJ 35 and the Parkway split, the NJT trailblazer shields directs motorists onto NJ 35 NB instead of the GSP.  There you have to travel through Aberdeen, Cliffwood, Laurence Harbor, South Amboy, and Sayrville on arterials and substandard freeways, where the Parkway goes right to the Turnpike in a matter of minuets and more direct.

Now with the removal of the Raritan North Toll Plaza, you have one less toll and NO TOLL from Route 9, so you would not be paying any more for convenience.
