In case anyone is planning on roadgeeking in NW Tennessee during Thanksgiving or the Holiday Season, the Discovery Park of America (Union City) website (http://www.discoveryparkofamerica.com/index.html) indicates that it will open on Friday, November 1. it will include an automobile exhibit (http://www.discoveryparkofamerica.com/transportation.html) and a theater simulation of a New Madrid "big one" (http://www.discoveryparkofamerica.com/regionalhistory.html). As they say in Alanland, it may or may not be worth checking out.

This ABC News article (http://abcnews.go.com/Travel/wireStory/80m-museum-educational-venue-tenn-20740431) reports that the Discovery Park of America is now open:

It's Discovery Park of America, a new museum, education center and tourist attraction opening Friday in Union City, Tenn., a town of 11,000 located a few hours' drive from Memphis, Nashville and St. Louis.
With exhibits about natural and regional history, dinosaurs, Native Americans, energy, transportation, science, the military and space flight, the museum can be described as a mini-Smithsonian Institution.
There's an earthquake simulator, a 120-foot (36-meter) glass-encased observation tower and a 50-foot (15-meter) metal replica of the human body that includes a 32-foot (10-meter) slide ....
Tickets cost under $15 pre-tax for single day passes for adults, children and seniors. Two-day passes are less than $20 ....
One intriguing feature is a theater that simulates the violent 1811-1812 New Madrid earthquakes, which re-formed the region's topography.
However, this NPR report (http://wkms.org/post/new-discovery-park-rural-tennessee-leaves-community-split) indicates that not everyone in Union City supports the museum.
