The opposition is going to be fierce in the Metroplex. It's happened before on a limited scale. TxDOT turned back a section of FM 720 (Main Street west of Preston Road) to Frisco and a section of FM 1461 (Lake Forest Drive north of US 380) to McKinney in the early part of last decade. Both cities are developing them into major thoroughfares, without any state help as far as I know.
