This is in Dallas, south of Northwest Highway (north Loop 12) on Inwood.(https://www.aaroads.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimageshack.com%2Fscaled%2F800x600%2F850%2F36sd.jpg&hash=ff397b43882127bb702c55c88cd074ead5cc0a7e)
If those letters were squeezed any more, forget not seeing the entrance (a turnoff, around the bend ahead, to a cul-de-sac), they'd be impossible to read.
It would be better to arrange the text part as:
HIDDEN
ENTRANCE
allowing for a much wider, more readable layout. Oh well, they didn't ask me.

What happened to the first few inches of the sign? o.o Is
that why they had to compress the letters?
*squints* Series A...? :wow:

It was blown-away in a storm (I think it was a thunderstorm). Hoo or Adam, do you recall?
That panel is
not that old, either.

I don't remember what happened, but yes, DC replaced lots of signs in the past six years or so. Obviously that sign was not there before 2008, as Nationals Park opened in March 2008 (and notice "Nationals Park" is in slightly squeezed type as well).
Recent, within the last year, pull-through BGS along US 202 Southbound/US 322 Eastbound just outside of West Chester, PA with the squeezed-in lettering for Wilmington (DE):

Either that, or they just added on the "Nationals Park" part when it opened.

Fair enough, I suppose it's not necessarily obvious, but either way, the sign was put up after Nationals Park opened. Lots of new signs were posted when Adrian Fenty was mayor.
