I've tried looking for updates on the portion of Sierra Highway in Santa Clarita that's still maintained by Caltrans. CA 14U (or as some would prefer, Old US 6) is one stubborn strip of road. Anyone know why it's taken so long to relinquish it?
The City of Santa Clarita does not want to handle the maintenance of that section of Sierra Highway. The Saugus Formation (the rocks there) tends to crumble often and is costly... so Caltrans is forced to keep it. Originally the County did not want the roadway... now the City.
Is 14U still signed in the field?
14U is still signed as of Tuesday.
