"State transportation officials are considering replacing the rotary in Agawam on the west side of the South End Bridge with a new type of interchange that uses traffic signals.
According to Michael Verseckes, a spokesman for the Massachusetts Department of Transportation, the state is considering the new alternative for the rotary rather than a prior proposal to build a fly-over from the bridge to reduce traffic congestion and accidents.
Verseckes said the state is considering a modified version of a "diverging diamond interchange," first used in France..."
Nice pic of non-reflective button copy in the article. Interesting how a politician, the mayor favored a fly-over ramp. Usually, here in CT, they would be against it b/c of "town charm" reasons.
I've been through that rotary many times. NOT having to stop if not necessary is what makes it night. It also IS a freeway to freeway connection. Connecting via a light is a waste.
