Bridge Day is probably more dangerous per person actually celebrating.
And that is why I will not be leaving the house for any New Year's celebrations. Too many drunk fucktards driving making themselves a threat to the other sober (or drunk) drivers on the road. By all means, drink as much as you want, but don't try and operate a motor vehicle while you can't even spell 'Mississippi' because you're that shitfaced. Even though my friends legally can't drink, they do it anyway, and then they wonder why I don't like to ride with them then. Maybe because you won't let the only person who doesn't drink to drive home? Even then, I wouldn't want to be on any highway with people flying by at 85+ mph while I'm riding the right lane going at max 5 over.
I've already lost a cousin due to a DUI accident - I'd rather not lose anymore people.
interestingly, New Years Eve of last year was one of the lightest-traffic days heading home through LA. about 1am is when I got out of the Grapevine, and I thought I'd be surrounded by bozos, but nope, traffic was so light that I had cruise control on 85 for many segments of I-5. I figured if I were sober and kept to myself, I'd be less likely to get pulled over, even when driving 5 mph over what is usually enforced.
9 PM: Very few cars. Probably the least of the year.
1 AM: Too many drunk drivers.
