What was the first signed US Highway? What was the first signed Interstate Highway?

I believe the first I-shields appeared on the Kansas Turnpike in 1956.  I-70. 

dunno about the first US shield to be put up in the field, but the demonstration model at AASHO's meetings in 1926 was a Maine US 56.
