There are plenty of topics on clinched highways, but what is the highest mileage you have completed on highways that you have not fully clinched?
For me, the longest unclinched highway by far is I-95. I've clinched it from Kittery, ME to West Palm Beach, FL for ~1,485 miles. Honorable mentions include I-81 from Syracuse, NY to its end in TN (~760 miles) and US 460 from Pikeville, KY to Norfolk, VA (~460 miles).
Mine is I-90 (from Ritzville, WA to around Gary, IN, about 1927 mi). Second and third go to I-15 (914 mi, from LA to Ogden, and Pocatello to Butte) and US 20 (774 mi, most of OR, and random bits and pieces in ID, WY, MT, and NE)
Close one for me, but I-80 gets a narrow edge over I-90. I've clinched 1,248 miles of I-80 in two discontinuous segments; one from the I-76 split in western Nebraska to the US-83 intersection in North Platte, and one from the I-480 interchange in Omaha to the first exit you reach upon crossing into New Jersey from Pennsylvania. I've clinched 1,222 miles of I-90 from the I-190 interchange in Rapid City to the I-80 split in Cleveland.
Edit: s/interstate/interchange/ -- s/from/of/ -- Preview button would have done wonders
I-5. I have been on everything from the BC border to somewhere around Laguna Niguel, CA, and some stretches of it in San Diego (flew there, never driven there), but I haven't been all the way to the MX border, or between San Diego (somewhere around Torrey Pines) and Laguna Niguel.
My top two are both ~1,150 miles: I-5 (Mexico border to Longview, WA) and I-15 (San Diego to Butte).
Third place is ~915 miles: I-80 (San Francisco to Rock Springs, WY).
Most on non-interstate is ~780 miles: US-101 (Los Angeles to Crescent City, CA).
I have 19 different un-clinched US routes where I have driven more than 500 miles:
Highest are US 1 (2024 mi - 85%); US 40 (1227 mi - 53%); US 30 (1206 mi - 39%); US 17 (1035 mi - 85%)
I have 11 different un-clinched interstates where I have driven more than 500 miles:
Highest are I-90 (2062 mi - 66%); I-80 (1986 mi - 68%); I-70 (1630 mi - 74%); I-10 (1347 mi - 54%); I-40 (1311 mi - 51%); I-94 (1132 mi - 70%); I-95 (1396 mi - 72%)
Mapmikey
I-70 - Baltimore to Hancock; Breezewood - New Stanton; Washington PA-Cambridge; Columbus area; Dayton - Indianapolis; St. Louis - Denver.
I-95 - Boston - Petersburg; JCT I-26- Daytona Beach; West Palm Beach - Miami.
I-85 - Petersburg - Archdale NC ; Charlotte - Atlanta.
I-75 - Detroit area; Toledo - Findlay; Cincinnati - JCT FLA TPK; Naples - Weston, FL.
I-90 - Boston- Springfield; Rochester - Erie; Toledo - Rapid City, Seattle area.
I-95:
Exits 30 (MA) to 50 (MA), 58 (MA) to 5 (NH), 6 (NY) to 47 (CT), gap in NJ to exit 16E (NJ), Exit 26 (PA) to Exit 22 (PA)
I have travelled just over 1000 kilometers (620 miles) of E80. This is the most I have done on a single route, however I did this on three separate countries. Sticking to just one, I have done 550 km (340 miles) of the 780 km (485 mile)-long A-2/N-II (I consider both to be the same route) in Spain, of which I have driven myself 97 km (60 miles).
Damn tiny Europe...
Fortunately, this is one of the things that's easy to find from the CHM "Top Stats".
Looks like mine is I-80. I've traveled about 2500 of over 2900 miles of that route. My three gaps are all between I-76 in Nebraska and I-84 in Utah.
For a short time after the I-90 extension to Logan Airport opened, it was my answer to this question. I had clinched the 3000 miles of I-90 before that section opened, and re-clinched soon after.
I have six that are over 1,000, two of which are also over 95%:
2124.6 of the 2187.1 miles on I-70 (97.1%)
1940.3 of the 2935.0 miles on I-80 (66.1%)
1726.8 of the 3105.9 miles on I-90 (55.6%)
1635.9 of the 2577.1 miles on I-40 (63.5%)
1568.8 of the 1625.2 miles on I-94 (96.5%)
1222.4 of the 1807.2 miles on I-75 (67.6%)
My top 3 are all Interstates...and all three are right at around 1,500 miles: I-95, I-90, and I-40.
Mine would be US 1 - about 2335 miles traveled, missing about 50 miles in the New York City metro area.
Behind that would be US 60 (~2100 miles traveled of ~2650 total, including everything west of I-49), US 40 (1900/2300, including everything east of Indianapolis), and US 30 (1720/3100).
For me, it would be I-95. While I've clinched it several states (MD, DE, PA, NJ, NY, CT, RI, MA, NH) over the years, there are several states I've only been on I-95 partially (ME, FL & VA) or not all (all others).
I-95. I'm missing 117.5 miles in Florida between the Golden Glades Interchange and Fort Pierce (hoping to remedy that in June), 28.8 miles in Massachusetts (the portion between its junctions with I-93), and 123.9 miles in Maine (everything north of I-395 at Bangor). No idea when I might get the chance to remedy the latter two omissions. Maybe this is a reason to plan a golf trip to New Brunswick and PEI!
If you were to count the Trans-Canada Highway and all its branches as a single highway for these purposes, it would be a close second if you look solely at the distance travelled. According to my CHM stats I've travelled 1456.9 miles of that system. But I have a lot farther to go to clinch the Trans-Canada than I do with I-95!
The two unclinched routes I'm closest to clinching are PA-283 and VA-195, each with 0.2 of a mile remaining. In each case the missing segment is a minuscule scrap at the western end. I may have to remedy PA-283 on our trip to a Hershey Bears game next month when the NHL shuts down for the Olympics.
For me, for sheer number of miles, would have to be I-80. I've been on I-80 from West Wendover, Nevada to Youngstown, Ohio.
I've done 433.3 miles of E05 in the UK (almost all of it). Also done 241.6 miles of the rest: while lacking a lot, 674.9 miles is as high as I get for one road.
Next best is 508 miles of E15 (in UK and France - about 250 miles in each).
Third best is 370.1 miles of I-5.
As for nearest to clinching: http://cmap.m-plex.com/stat/topstats.php?u=si404#thnbc
I have 4 over 1000 miles:
I-90: Seattle, WA - Bozeman, MT; Buffalo, WY - Sioux Falls, SD; I-94 (WI) - Buffalo, NY
I-80: US 93 (NV) - Cheyenne, WY; I-680 (IA) - I-81 (PA)
I-75: St. Ignace, MI - Flint, MI; Detroit, MI - Florida's Tpk.
I-70: Silverthorne, CO - Zanesville, OH; Wheeling, WV - Washington, PA; I-68 (MD) - Ellicot City, MD
I don't have a good way to keep stats (don't do CHM and probably won't until they come up with some sort of clickable map by which to mark mileage) but I'd have to guess that my champion would be I-70. I have everything east of Grand Junction. I need only that segment between Grand Junction and I-15.
Honorable mentions:
US 60. I have everything from just west of the MO-OK border to Virginia Beach.
US 50. I have some mileage in western Colorado and in Kansas, then everything east of the MO-KS state line to its eastern terminus in Maryland, except between Winchester, Va. and the VA/DC line.
US 421: I have everything from Michigan City to the Greensboro area and some incidental mileage southeast of Greensboro.
I haven't been around much, so everything is under 1000 km. I took these numbers from my trip logs.
I-94:
(MI) 345 km / 443 km (77.9%) from Indiana to M-10
(IN) clinched 74 km
(IL) 5 km / 118 km (4.2%) from Indiana to I-80
= 424 km / 2551 km (16.6%)
I-69:
(MI) 263 km / 324 km (81.2%) from Canada to I-94
= 263 km / 949 km (27.7%)
QEW: 102 km / 139 km (73.4%) to ON-405 because I really don't have anything to go to Fort Erie for :pan:
These are my major non-clinches. Note that they are in descending order of mileage kilometrage, and ascending order of percentage clinched. I didn't even see that coming. :spin:
If I may count non-freeways, I've done 469 km / 486 km (96.5%) of MacArthur Highway (PH-3), mostly due to the long trips between Manila and Baguio my dad and I used to do about every other month. EDIT: I've actually clinched that one. >_>
Off the top of my head, mine is I-380 in Iowa. I'm only missing the mile or so north of US-20 in Waterloo.
Out of all of the longer interstates, it would be 74. I have everything west of I-275 in Cincinnati.
for a while, I had all of I-80 done except the segment between the western 215 and the western end of the 15-80 multiplex in Salt Lake City. I simply forgot in 2005, and didn't get the missing segment until 2009.
there was at some point an extension of I-90 in Seattle that I had been missing. that doesn't count as an error on my part, though.

Same with me. I don't "do" clinching, but I am missing a fairly short segment of I-95.
I've driven:
About 16.5 miles from Coral Gables, Fla. to Golden Glades, Fla.
About 1,119 miles from Fort Pierce, Fla. (there's a breezewood between Florida's Turnpike and I-95 via Fla. 70) to Ewing, N.J.
About 863 miles from Bristol, Penna. to Houlton, Maine.
According to Google, I am missing about 117 miles of I-95 between Golden Glades and Fla. 70.
A very long time ago, when I was a student at the University of Maryland, two reporters from the campus newspaper,
the Diamondback, decided to drive all of U.S. 1 from Key West to Fort Kent, Maine. They did, and reported on the trip in a series of installments. I presume they selected U.S. 1 because it runs through the middle of the College Park campus.
I have everything south of US-3 near Boston for I-95, except for a small stretch in Richmond between I-64/195 and I-295.
I have all of I-26 except for the part north of I-81.

Which exit? That isn't a definitive exit, and could mean anything from exits 12 to 45. I-95 goes around Boston at a radius of about 10 miles.
Probably I-90- I've driven it from Seattle to Sioux Falls, Rockford to Elgin, Chicago to I-69, and I-271 to I-495.
US 20 would be the honorable mention- I've clinched that from Newport, Oregon all the way to O'Neill, Nebraska with the exception of the stretch from Nyssa Oregon to US 95 in Idaho, which is like a mile.
US 191 is a big one too- I've driven that from Mexico to US 163 and from the Utah/Wyoming line to Lewistown, MT.
Probably my second longest without gaps would be US 12 from its western terminus in Aberdeen, WA all the way to McIntosh, SD (1,334 miles).
I've got I-80 from SFO to Winnemucca, NV, from Wendover NV to Sugar Grove IL, and then from the west Tri State junction over to I-65
I-70 from Newark OH to Denver CO.
Oh and I totally forgot US 87. I have driven that from west of Lewistown MT all the way to Brady TX with the exception of that washed out piece near Story, WY that will never be repaired.

If that's the case, then you have I-80 to I-88 as I-80 does not go to Sugar Grove.
Good call. I was last on that stretch of road in 97 when we moved from Geneva to Idaho so my memory is a bit fuzzy! We definitely got on the interstate in Sugar Grove so must have taken 88 to the Quad Cities
Pretty sure my longest is U.S. 50, from Sacramento to Greenwood MO (just east of KC). That's about 1400 miles, IIRC. I occasionally consider a trip to drive it east to Ocean City MD. I also have long stretches of routes like I-10 and I-80, but I don't think they're continuous.
For me, that would be on Interstate 90
Sheridan, WY to Rockford, IL 1,075 mi
Gary, IN to Elyria, OH 277 mi
Syracuse, NY to East Boston, MA 203 mi
I-29? I-70? I-75? I-40?
Longest 5:
I-95: I-295 (ME) to I-195 (ME), ME 101 to I-495 northern junction (MA), I-90 to US 1 (along 128), I-495 Southern Junction (MA) to DC Beltway (not including future portion along NJTP/PA Turnpike connection).
I-84: Matamoras, PA to Sturbridge, MA
I-90: I-87 Northway to I-93.
I-91: I-95 to MA 2 western junction
I-87: Bruckner to Cross County, Cross Westchester to I-84, Kingston Exit to I-90, I-90 split to Northway Exit 20.
Without looking at my logs, I'm going to say either I-95 or the Trans-Canada Highway.
Longest 5:
I-95, as mentioned earlier.
I-93 from exit 20 (MA) to 34A (NH).
I-90 from Exit 25A (NY) to 24 (MA), Mass Pike and Thruway/Berkshire Connector only.
I-91 from CT 15 (I-84 "ramp") to south end of I-91, as well as exits 3-8 and 13-14 in MA
I-495 from Exit 22 (Mass Pike) to north end of I-495.
Top 5 non-freeways:
MA/NH 28 from 1 mile south of I-95 to 3 miles north of NH 111.
MA 114 from west end to MA 107. (Almost clinched)
MA 62 from Middlesex Turnpike to east end of 62, except from North Reading High School to 114.
NY 79 from Whitney Point to Ithaca.
NY 206 from I-88 to Whitney Point.
Other non-freeways to go high on my list are MA 38, MA 110, US 29/GA 8, and US 1 (around Peabody MA).

FTFY. (trust me on this...you'll thank me later)
Quote(don't do CHM and probably won't until they come up with some sort of clickable map by which to mark mileage)
Which really won't be any easier...and would require hundreds (if not thousands) of clicks for a user starting from scratch.
My top five:
I-81 - Canadian Border to Ft. Chiswell, VA - 696 miles
I-95 - Burlington, MA to St. Geroge, SC (961 miles) and FLL to Vizcaya (Miami), FL (25 miles) - 986 miles
I-5 - Canadian Border to Irvine, CA - 1,288 miles
I-70 - Park and Ride, MD to Aurora, CO - 1,649 miles
I-40 - Barstow, CA to Nashville, TN (1,888 miles) and Mebane NC, to Wilmington, NC (167 miles) - 2055 miles
US 2 definitely wins for me - I'm only missing across WI to US 8 in western MI. I also have US 6 and 20 out from the Atlantic Ocean to I-75, but that's far shorter of a clinch. Then I have US 11 down to Bristol, VA - about to go get 11E and 11W and possibly 11 in GA - as well as a long stretch of 11 in MS.
I am missing about 110 miles of I-95 (Old Town, ME, to the Canadian border)
I have done about 1,000 miles of I-40 between Wilmington and Little Rock.
I can also claim about 450 miles of I-90 between Boston and Buffalo, and another 370 miles between Cleveland and Chicago.
I-85 between Petersburg and the southern end of the I-75/I-85 overlap in Atlanta -- about 510 miles
I-75 from the northern end of the Atlanta overlap to Miami -- about 730 miles
I have significant pieces of I-70 and I-80, but much less than the above.
I-80 wins this for me. I have it covered from I-95 to I-25. I really need to get out west and finish that interstate, as well as pick up a bunch of new counties in the process.
I-40: 1,504 mi, from the NM—TX state line to the I-85 junction.
I-70: 1,170 mi, from the I-470 junction in Topeka, KS (maybe a bit west of that but I'm not sure where exactly, so I just count it as I-470) to The Park & Ride.
Honorable mention for greatest non-100% percentage clinched goes to M-28. I'm just missing the bit from I-75 to the eastern terminus.

....
My wife plays golf and we've taken golf trips before (including to Nova Scotia), hence why I said that. But we also do things other than play golf on said trips (e.g., in Nova Scotia a trip to the Fortress of Louisbourg was a must).
I don't offhand know exactly how much mileage it is, but I have to believe the grand champion of unclinched interstates for me is I-94. I believe I have all of it except for portions in the Dickinson and the Fargo-Moorhead areas (I was a kid then, and there may be other pieces I don't remember, but I do remember seeing downtown Fargo) from I-90 in Billings to the I-94/I-694 separation north of Minneapolis and from MN 55 west of downtown Minneapolis all the way to the 80-90 interchange in NW Indiana and from MI 60 in Jackson to Exit 172 in Ann Arbor and Exit 177 in Ann Arbor to US 24 (Telegraph Road) near Detroit.
I believe US 34 is my grand champion on US routes. I got it between Hastings and the US 281 separation in Grand Island, from Shady Bend Road in GI to the NE 2 separation, from NE 14 in Aurora to L41D in Hampton, some of it in York and in Seward, and then from NE 79 NW of Lincoln to its eastern end at IL 43, with the possible exception of a piece near Earlville, IL (Somehow, I always ended up needing gas in Earlville, which takes you off the highway and into town.)
Here is my top five, all mileages are approximate:
I-90:
Seattle, WA - Ellensburg, WA (~107 miles)
Sundance, WY - Sioux Falls, NE (~425 miles)
La Crosse, WI - Erie, PA (~733 miles)
Buffalo, NY - Albany, NY (~288 miles)
Sturbridge, MA - Boston, MA (~60 miles)
(Total ~1,613 miles)
I-70:
Dillon, CO - Dayton, OH (~1,266 miles)
Wheeling, WV - Washington, PA (~35 miles)
New Stanton, PA - Frederick, MD (~169 miles)
(Total ~1,470 miles)
I-80:
Near Julesburg, CO (JCT I-76) to near Hazleton, PA at I-81, exit 260 (~1,469 miles)
I-75:
Sault Ste. Marie, MI - Wildwood, FL (~1,429 miles)
I-95:
Miami, FL - Greenbelt, MD (~1,070 miles)
Boston, MA - Augusta, ME (~168 miles)
(Total ~1,238 miles)
