Interstate 585 is spur route of Interstate 85 in South Carolina connecting Spartanburg. It duplexes with United States Highway 176.
California Avenue
The California Avenue (SR-42-124) overpass was struck by a semi-tractor carrying a load above the maximum height allowed. A section of the bridge was taken out upon impact. Interstate 585 temporarily closed for crews to remove the bridge. Interstate 585 has reopened. Detours have been posted for California Avenue.
The California Avenue overpass was scheduled for replacement in September. As the bridge is out of service, replacement will begin sooner.

South Carolina Department of Transportation will begin accepting bids for the replacement of the California Avenue overpass bridge in April. Construction is expected to begin in late June.
The new bridge will have a clearance of 17 feet. The previous bridge had a clearance of 13 feet and 10 inches.
