Title: "Do Not Stop" section on US-101 north of Eureka
Post by: ZLoth on January 25, 2014, 05:07:44 AM
Somebody please tell me I'm mis-remembering things from my road trip in early October of last year. I could have sworn there was a section of US-101 north of Eureka where the signage for a section of road specifically advised "Do Not Stop". I suspect it was due to natural hazards, but I am having a hard time locating it. Any guesses.

This was NOT a construction zone with the orange signs.

It's also to stop you seeing the rest of Global Dynamics (http://eureka.wikia.com/wiki/Global_Dynamics)'s top secret research.

I've usually only seen that for prisons nearby, but I have seen at least once the same sign for rockslide areas. Didn't stop me from getting photos.

That was my first thought - Pelican Bay (supermax prison) backs up to US 101 outside of Crescent City.

I've seen "HITCHHIKERS MAY BE ESCAPING INMATES" and "REPORT SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY - DIAL 911" near a few prisons. But not that I recall in California, though.

Did you live to talk about it?

There is nothing random about it.  The section of 101 between Arcata and Eureka is a congested expressway.  The plan is to upgrade it to a freeway, add an interchange at Indianola Road plus place a bike and pedestrian path between the highway and railroad tracks.  The Coastal Commission had to get their 2 cents in for conditions so procedure, procedure and more procedure is holding up the parade.  Here's a link to the website that deals with this long strung-out project: http://eurekaarcatacorridor.wordpress.com/
