Title: Driving Simulator Game
Post by: ce929wax on January 29, 2014, 06:51:44 PM
Hello all,
I was curious if any of you guys knew of where I might find a driving simulator game where I don't have to take on a "mission" and can just drive where I want to when I want to that is based off of actual roads and interstates?  I'm curious as to if such a thing exists and where I might find it if does.

Midnight Club Los Angeles is a real world based driving game where you can cruise around a lot.  It's more of an arcade game than a real driving simulation though.

The LA freeway system is pretty well executed in the game, particularly with the Southcentral Expansion pack.

I was thinking more on a national scale.  I wish the Google Earth program and plug in wasn't having issues and that they would make a driving simulator out of streetview or something.

What issues?

The Street View car doesn't take images every few inches or so, so driving on it wouldn't be so smooth, because the other ones would have to be interpolated from the ones that already exist. Much like when you use the real thing, it moves by some amount and you see the images blur for a split second. So no, it can't really be done.

I was using the 3d Google earth driving simulators up until recently when the plug in started having issues, and then Google Earth started having issues.  It could very well be my lap top, but I have always used these programs on my lap top and after doing some research, I found that other people were having issues too.

Try this: http://geoquake.jp/en/webgame/DrivingSimulatorGM/

Unfortunately, the view is only top-down, not from the perspective of a driver.
