Title: Hugh L. Carey Tunnel (I-478) signage
Post by: dgolub on February 07, 2014, 07:53:34 PM
I recently uploaded some photos of the new signage on West Street (NY 9A) in Manhattan for the recently renamed Hugh L. Carey Tunnel (I-478).  They're available on my site at http://www.greaternyroads.info on the NY 9A page.  Enjoy!

From Brooklyn, to the Battery. That is the only proper way to name roads in NY. From and to.

Sign the I-478 designation so we can just call it that.

Amen.  It's bad enough renaming something that at least has a number, but renaming something with no signed number is bound to confuse a lot of people.

The number was the afterthought, not the name.  The tunnel had a name first.

New York seems to have an awful lot of extra money these days, with all the renamings and consequent sign work.  Good thing the schools are all top-notch.

The number of renamings that they've been doing is ridiculous.  It must confuse a lot of people from out of town who don't know the area.

Actually, come to think of it, they don't necessarily have the money to pay for all the sign replacements involved, since there are still signs for the Triboro Bridge all over the city.

The Brooklyn Bridge should be outbound only and the Manhattan Bridge inbound only.

One-way bridges are a Bronx thing, not a Brooklyn thing.

Well if you are talking about driving in NYC, yes I agree that IT SUCKS!   People are so damn aggressive its a total free for all. I could not wait to get into the Lincoln Tunnel to get back to Jersey last time I drove there, however on another note that 7.50 toll that the HL Carey Tunnel now has is not that convincing to leave Manhattan that way.

I need the Brooklyn Bridge to get to the FDR.  Manhattan's better for the Holland Tunnel, but that would also be easily accomplished from the Brooklyn Bridge.
