It really is a shame. However the bible has been the most misinterpreted and sometimes misunderstood book in the world. To take  one scripture (Mark 16:18) out of context the way that the snake handlers do has proved to be fatal. While I do admire the faith of this man of God, i do not share his bravery when it comes to snakes, you wont find me handling any. May God rest his soul.

This is the nature of proof-texting. one cannot simply take a verse from the bible and make it say whatever they want it to say. In careful study of the bible we must look at the context of the passage of scripture as a whole as well as the setting, historical context and intended audience. We must not be cavalier about God's divine protection of the saints.

Admin note - this board specifically disallows discussion of religion. Though an interesting topic, this is not the proper forum for it.
