Title: US 41 does enter Monroe County
Post by: NE2 on March 04, 2014, 11:43:49 PM
There was a discussion about this a while ago and nobody was sure, but page 6 of http://www.dot.state.fl.us/surveyingandmapping/rowmap/D1/Collier/03040-2110%280304-250%28110%29.pdf makes it clear that the surveyed centerline enters Monroe County, and so the spray-painted marking on the guardrail is probably the true corner.

Also: 183 foot wide right-of-way? Isn't that a bit much?

Well, that's about as definitive as you're going to get without going there and trying to phyiscally locate the monument that marks the corner in the middle of the swamp and verifying that it's north of the road. Nice to have this question answered!

I also find it interesting that at this point there is what appears to be someone's house or something behind a gate to the south of the road. The location of that can't be a coincidence - someone deliberately wanted to be in Monroe County.

There's one question answered. Meanwhile the discussion over the true southern terminus of US 41 continues.

Taken yesterday afternoon, where FL A1A turns west from Miami Beach. No shields for FL A1A or U.S. 41 (A1A is referenced on the mast-arm street sign in text only).

FDOT GIS continues to reference Miami Beach as the easternmost extent of U.S. 41.

The presence of the blue business signs in this pic seems totally unnecessary. Especially since it's in a downtown area, and there's no actual driveway that drivers need to find.

If you are still in the area...

When I was in Miami a few weeks back I turned from US 41 onto US 1 NB.  I could have sworn I saw a US 41 SOUTH shield in my mirror where the US 1 SOUTH shield would be.  I did not get a photo...

All i know is that the US 1 reroute using FL 970 was not posted yet...
