In my life I have seen many interstate terminuses, but never actually made the journey in between.
I have been at both ends of I-10, but never clinched the whole route
I have seen both ends of I-55, but never clinched the whole route
I have even seen both ends of I-59, but never used it completely
Then both ends of I-65 I have seen, but traveled most of the route except for Southern Indiana, and one small portion in Southern Alabama.
What routes have you seen at both ends, but never filled in the gaps in between? Being the clinch threads have many missing interstate numbers I am sure that many of you probably have been on many in part or interchanged with at each end.
I-293 in New Hampshire. Both ends are at I-93, so this may be a trivial case.
I-195 in MA/RI and the eastern I-84 come to mind for me. Also a bunch of NY routes and at least one VT route.
I-80 and I-90 come to mind... Possibly I-94 as well.

I-295 seems much more likely than I-195. Are you sure you meant I-195?
Last year traveling through South Texas, I made sure to endure Laredo city traffic so I could enter the south end of I-35. I've driven through the north terminus in Duluth several times. What I'm missing of I-35 is much of the route south of Dallas/Ft. Worth.
I-88 western, I-43, I-74 original.
I-80, I-70, and I-40

Yep. All of my mileage on I-195 comes from two trips separated by several years. I have the western end from a diversion to Fall River after a family vacation to Boston (we went back to the Mass Pike via Providence, and to this day that is the only time I've been to Rhode Island), and the eastern from a school field trip to Cape Cod (and a visit to the New Bedford Whaling Museum, though we went back via MA 140, so I'm missing the section in between).
I-195 RI-MA
I-481 NY
edit:
I-690 NY
I-74
My literal interpretation of the title would be to have been to both ends of a route but have not clinched any of it. For interstates this allows me the following:
- I-215, CA
- I-470, KS
- I-495, ME
- I-640, TN
- I-670, KS/MO
If we also consider interstates that I've been to both ends of and traveled some but not all of the route in between, that adds the following:
- I-4
- I-8
- I-10
- I-77
- I-190, NY
- I-270, OH
- I-275, FL
- I-275, KY/IN/OH
- I-295, FL
- I-376, PA
- I-520, GA/SC
For beltways I'm defining "endpoints" as the location of mile marker 0.
I-220 is the only one I can think of for me.
I-895 (NY), I-278, I-787, I-587, I-287
2di: I-64, I-65, I-68, I-69 (IN-MI), I-71, I-74 (IA-OH), I-75, I-76, I-80, I-81, I-82, I-83, I-88 (IL), I-90, I-99
3di: Too many to count
I'm pretty sure there are some others, but right now I can recall these:
I-84 (eastern)
I-87
I-91
I-93
I-195 (VA)
I-195 (RI/MA)
I-464 (VA)
I-476 (PA)
I-287 (NY/NJ)
I-895 (NY)
I-395 (CT/MA)
I-495 (MA)
I-485 (NC)
I-640 (TN)
I guess I could count I-285 in Georgia (passed through both junctions on I-85 and have been on some segments of I-285, but not nearly all of it) and I-270 in Ohio (same but substitute I-70)
Edited to add: BTW, I was construing this as meaning it's OK if you've travelled on portions of the road between the termini as long as (a) you have seen both termini and (b) you haven't clinched it. If it means roads for which you've seen both termini but never travelled on at all, I would have to shorten the list to I-464, I-895, I-395, I-485, and I-640. For the others, I've travelled some portion (most of it, in the case of I-87) but not the whole thing.
I-59 is all for me.
The 5
I-24 (technicality: long stretches in KY were not yet built)
I-80
Seen both termini, but never traveled on at all?
I can name a number of 3dis, but I don't have any 2dis in that category.
I-680 NE
I-405 CA
I-235 IA
I-470 MO
Ones that I have been on, seen both termini, but never finished.
I-59
I-96
I-65
I-696 MI
I-480 OH
I-90, I-77, I-55, I-24.
I-295, 395, and 695 in Maryland.
I-495 in Delaware
I-676 in PA-NJ
I believe I've never traveled the portion of I-87 south of the Thruway. I also believe I used the Canada crossing from I-87. Neither of these is certain because the Canada trip was 13 years ago and I was not behind the wheel. Also, one of the bus trips I made between NYC and Boston (via Hartford, CT) could theoretically have used the southern portion of I-87, though I don't believe that to be the case.
Do beltways have termini? If the Baltimore beltway (I-695) can be said to terminate at either or both junctions with I-95, you can add that one to the list.
Also, I-95 itself in NJ. I've been at both termini many times (heh heh). Though, I've traveled the entirety of future I-95 on many occasions

In Southern California.
Wow, I never though of that one. Let's see. 81, 80, 90, 10, real 74, 76, 59, 55.
First I have to think of Interstates I've never been on for any length.
Only 2-digit that fits: I-88 Western
(I-2, I-37, I-86 Western are the others I haven't been on, but I haven't been near either terminus of those.)
I've been on so many 3di's that I find it hard to believe any of those would qualify. I-675 (OH), I-175 and I-375 (FL) are the only ones I can think of east of the Mississippi, but I haven't been past both termini.
Future I-795 (FL): If you count routes that aren't yet signed, I've been past all termini - I-295, US 1, and I-95.
There are probably a couple around DFW, Houston, and LA, but I'm not clear enough on my pre-camera travels to be sure.
No 2dis that I can think of.
I-275 (TN)
I-293 (NH)
I-295 (RI/MA)
I-395 (CT/MA)
Maybe I-405 (CA)? I might actually have this clinched; I need to double-check.
Honorable mention: I-440 (TN) - I haven't *exactly* been to the western terminus, but crossing under it on US 70 is pretty damn close.
Bold indicates that I've seen both termini, but have not traveled any part of the route.
From looking at a map I realized I could add I-59 and I-75 to my list. I'd forgotten about I-75 because it's been almost 20 years since I travelled its northern end (a 1987 trip to Michigan and Ontario).
The only 2di I can think of offhand is I-25, but my only time through Buffalo, WY was so long ago perhaps it shouldn't count. I did go thru Las Cruces, NM in 2009. But I've never been on I-25.
As for 3di's, by state:
IL: I-155, possibly I-180 (drove the N-S segment and E-W segment, but not the curve connecting the two)
KS: I-635 (which is also in MO)
MN: I-494, possibly I-394 (it may not have been I-394 yet when I was at west end)
MO: I-170

The western end of I-195 is at I-95 in Providence RI, and the eastern end of I-195 is at I-495/MA 25 in Wareham, MA. Therefore, stating I-195 RI/MA is a perfectly logical statement.

I mentioned that road as well and here's why: I travelled on part of it on a trip to Cape Cod many years ago. We took the Newport Bridge as a scenic alternate to the Interstate on the way up. From the bridge to Cape Cod, I-195 is the most realistic route. So we used it for part of the way. If you look at a map, you can see how only the most determined driver using the bridge would not wind up on I-195.
Just thought of another one I can add to I-74...also, I-79.
I-88 Eastern for me...seen both ends but never finished the whole route
For sure:
I-780 (CA): Been on 680 and 80 and the termini, never been on any part of 780.
I-880 (CA): Been to both ends, but missing short section between CA-84/Dumbarton Bridge and CA-262 (yeah, that's all)
I-580 (CA): Been to both ends of it, but hardly traveled on any of it (only small sections within Oakland city limits, as well as the overlap with 80)
I-605 (CA)
Debatable:
I-580 (NV): I've been on US-395 between Reno and Carson City (to 580's current terminus), but am missing the most recent segment that opened north of Washoe Lake because it did not exist.
Close:
I-80: Been to Manhattan, so within 10 miles or so from the terminus, but never "seen" it. Been to the western terminus.
Unsure:
I-405 (CA): I'm pretty sure I've been to its southern terminus, but not positive. I know I haven't clinched it.
I-405 (WA): Not sure whether or not I've clinched this
I may be able to throw I-280 and 680 (CA) in this list, but I'm unsure if I've been on the part of US-101 where they intersect. If so, it's when I was young.
Only I-5 for me. I been to the Canadian and Mexican borders.

But you've not been on any of it between?
I-10, I-295 FL and (maybe, I don't remember seeing the west end but I may have) I-4 are about all for me. I've been to the eastern terminus of I-64, but never the western as it stands right now. I have also been to the southern terminus of each of I-81 and I-87 but not the north. I have, however, traveled portions of all of these. Anything else I can think of, I've been to and clinched it (i.e. I-275's in OH/KY/IN and TN, I-640 in TN, I-471 in KY and Ohio).
Before it was extended north through Asheville, NC, I had also been to the northern terminus of I-26 but not the south. As a matter of fact, I've still never been to the southern terminus of I-26.

FTFY. I-26 is an East-West route despite running almost North-South.
As for me, well since I haven't crossed the pond yet, you know.
I probably have a few, maybe even several, 3dis but off the top of my head, the only ones I can say for sure that I have ar the western I-84 and I-80.
I-90 I may have had prior to the eastern extension, but even that I'm not sure of.
I-70 I might have (provided the I-695 interchange suffices as opposed to the Park & Ride), but I'm honestly not certain.
I'm within a couple of blocks of having the "special case" -- not traveling the interstate at all -- for I-10. I've passed the eastern terminus I believe 3 times, and drove through Santa Monica on Santa Monica Blvd and Ocean Avenue once, but that doesn't quite give me the western terminus.
I-87 is probably the only other one I'm close to. I have it clinched north of the Cross-County Parkway, the closest I've been to the southern terminus is the Manhattan leg of the Triboro Bridge (in other words, one interchange south on I-278).

Same here.
Also I-4 - been at both ends, but never in Orlando or anyplace else along its route.
For me, the only true interstate that fits this thread is I-480 in Ohio.
Others that I've seen both termini without clinching the whole route include I-39, I-55, I-57, I-355, I-196, and I-496. I'm not too sure I-55 should count, though, because I traveled significant distances leading up to both termini.
When I mentioned I-293 early on, I have not traveled any of it, making it a "special case". However, as I said before, both termini are on I-93.
Interstate 8 (San Diego, CA to Casa Grande, AZ)
Interstate 405 (southern Orange County to San Fernando, CA)
I have pass through the I-5/I-8 & I-10/I-8 interchanges, but the only part of I-8 I have driven on is in the El Cajon area.
I have pass through both I-5/I-405 interchanges, but the only part of I-405 I have driven on is the west Los Angeles/San Fernando Valley link (AKA Sepulveda Pass).

In the south I been on I-5 from the Mexican border up to CA 152. Then from the north I been on I-5 from the Canadian border to Olympia.
