Suicides Mounting, Golden Gate Looks to Add a Safety Net (http://www.nytimes.com/2014/03/27/us/suicides-mounting-golden-gate-looks-to-add-a-safety-net.html)
QuoteTourists who lean against the wind as they cross the Golden Gate Bridge may miss the slow-moving woman without a purse or the solo man without a camera or running shoes.
QuoteLast year was a record: 46 people plunged to their deaths from the majestic orange bridge. Bridge workers stopped 118 others. That is a suicide or an attempt almost every other day at what is the most popular suicide spot in the nation, and among the most popular in the world.
QuoteUnlike the Empire State Building, the Eiffel Tower and the Sydney Harbour Bridge, the Golden Gate lacks a suicide barrier.

Although this Bridge has been mentioned as the most beautiful bridge by tourists its has its downside, Suicides according to the San Francisco Chronicle.
The Golden Gate Bridge Board appoved a $76 Million Suicide barrier to reduce suicides.
What is your take here.
The article doesn't really help visualize how the bridge will look. Eliminating the attraction of the bridge to people considering suicide will reduce the number of suicides; you'd think they'd find another way to commit suicide, but studies indicate it's usually a momentary impulse and if the first idea doesn't work most don't try something else.
Wait there are 2 other bridges with pedestrian access East Bay Bridge and Al Zampa Bridge. How will Caltrans respond when somebody chose that bridge for suicide.

I don't think either bridge is as far from the water as the Golden Gate so a jump from either the Al Zampa or the new eastern span of the Bay Bridge is not guaranteed to be fatal. According to Wikipedia, one guy did attempt suicide by jumping from the Al Zampa bridge but he survived.
It is ironic that someone would choose the Al Zampa Bridge as a suicide spot, as Zampa himself fell off the Golden Gate Bridge during its construction and was saved by a safety net.
