You know, when I came to the forums this evening and saw the changes made, my first reaction was WTF?!?!? Then it dawned on me, tomorrow is April 1st... :-D ...although it's still March 31st on the west coast.
If this is, in fact, an April Fools joke all I can say is "Well Done!" :clap: :clap: :clap:
BTW, is the font supposed to be Clearview?
I noticed the font change too. Initially, my reaction was WTF. Generally I'm not a person who likes change for the sake of change. I hadn't even considered that today is April Fool's Day; probably because I'm sick and trying to concentrate on keeping water down. Figures, I would have to get sick on the one day where it's acceptable for me to play practical jokes.
It's beautiful.
Must be fourteen-fourteen day. Or is it fourty-one fourteen day?
Ah, the jokes. Love it. Well, hate the font, but you get what I mean.
This font is horrendous to read!!!

I have no idea what you're saying. ;)
Barf: What the hell was that!
Lonestar: Spaceball One.
Barf: They've gone to Clearview.
Well, now I have a reason for hating Clearview other than on principle. :-D
Wish SMF wouldn't change ALL users layouts to the new one when the mods add a new one...
Clearview! Clearview everywhere! :D

Your argument is invalid. :bigass:
To be honest, I don't hate the Clearview here; but the bolded things are just bolded when it should probably be a different series. :) I also didn't notice anything until I logged in just now, because my phone renders it in Tahoma.
If this modification is intended to make a statement, congratulations, it does. (For the record, you are doing 4/1 right.)
I love and don't love the change equally and unequally, except where it is forbidden and permitted, unless it is or isn't.
I'm going to go off and play 2048 Numberwang for a while . . . .

That's cheating - my iPhone rendered it in Clearview somehow. :ded:

I have a Windows Phone, and IE doesn't support the CSS technique that changed the fonts.
Just like the signs, this is hard as fuck to read. You did your joke, now change it back.

SMF uses session verification for changing your theme, for who knows why, so please follow the steps below!
EDIT: Go to 'Look and Layout' in your profile. Then go to 'Change' next to current Theme: Button Copy 2.0 (Clearview). Then select [Use This Theme] on any other theme to leave the Clearview madness.
Sorry mods, it was making my eyes hurt trying to read the Clearview. I had to see if there were other themes available. :biggrin:

Go to https://www.aaroads.com/forum/index.php?action=profile;area=theme; and hit the 'Change' link next to Button Copy 2.0 (Clearview). The rest should be self-explanatory.
Got it working. :cool:

Thanks for the link Zeffy.
While I understand it's April Fools, the Clearview font made reading this forum very, very painful. With that said, A+ for effort!
This is certainly one case where the Clearview font is not easy to read.
That said, well done w/the April Fool's joke.
Unless there's plans to keep this particular thread in the Clearview font come tomorrow; this whole topic will be rendered irrelevant by then. :sombrero:
Guys! Guys! The reason the forum Clearview is hard to read? It's a negative contrast violation! :pan: :pan:

That was the only way to set the joke up. About half of the people had manually specified Button Copy rather than the forum default, so there was no other way to inflict the font on them but to have the software change everyone to the new theme. And it wouldn't have been a good joke if only half of the people saw it and everyone else said "I don't see anything different..."
If you simply can't stand it and want an early reprieve from Clearview, go to Profile > Modify Profile > Look and Layout and select the Button Copy 2.0 theme. (And in the future, if any masochist wants to change back to Clearview after April 1, you can select Button Copy (Clearview) to get it back.)

And for that reason, I added back in the forum logo for that theme. ;)
Initially, I had thought that some of my system fonts had leaked into the site (as sometimes happen with older sites), but well done!

It would be great if you could use a Clearview version of the logo instead for the Clearview theme. I mean, the slogan is already in Clearview anyway. :spin:
(On the other hand, I don't know what button copy Clearview looks like. :/)

This is true. The positive-contrast disclaimer at the bottom is much more legible.

I will second that.
Clearview's not meant for long paragraphs of text. If the whole forums were in Highway Gothic, it would be equally hard to read, with the bonus of us being stuck in the 1950s, everything being way too bold, and having ugly lowercase g's. :happy:

Found and fixed the theme to add it. ;)
Actually, Terminal Design does have a variant of Clearview for applications other than signage (ClearviewText), which AT&T picked up for a while. Someone should have put together some money for that; it would have pissed off the anti-Clearview crowd even more that it's used in pamphlets!
At least y'all didn't turn the site pink like on another forum I visit.

Thanks for the tip. I was willing to put up with it for April Fool's Day, plus I wasn't feeling well, so I was a bit lazy. However, now I'm going to manually change it. I'm feeling better today and am highly annoyed by the font.
Aaaand we're back to normal. Sorry to whoever that one guy is who likes the SMF default white and blue theme, I had to set everyone to the Button Copy theme to make the Clearview go away!

Ahem...that was me...the default is much easier on my eyes than ANY of your button copy options.
Oddly enough, I didn't even notice that the April Fools font was Clearview. I just noticed that it was different.

Was the fore-mentioned forum in question an aviation-based one? I know of one that did such (for April 1) several years ago.
Now that the default has been switched back, there's exactly one person using the Clearview theme. I'm a Clearview fan and that's hilarious.
I didn't realize the font change was a joke until it changed back. I like it. This morning when I saw it had gone back, I switched to the Clearview theme.
Caveat: I use a stylesheet override to add 1px interletter spacing and 2px word spacing to everything on this site – that's been in place for quite a while already. I think the Clearview would probably look worse without it.
I do wonder about the faux-bold that's going on here. It's not too bad, but it might (or might not) look better if it used an actual bolder Clearview font. We could add the following to the stylesheet:
@font-face {
font-family: 'Clearview';
src: url('roadgeek_2005_series_4b-webfont.eot');
src: url('roadgeek_2005_series_4b-webfont.eot?#iefix') format('embedded-opentype'),
url('roadgeek_2005_series_4b-webfont.woff') format('woff'),
url('roadgeek_2005_series_4b-webfont.ttf') format('truetype'),
url('roadgeek_2005_series_4b-webfont.svg#roadgeek_2005_series_4bRg') format('svg');
font-weight: bold;
font-style: normal;
}
This would make bold text appear in Clearview 4B. Of course, the site would have to provide 4B in the necessary formats as it does 4W. I tried something similar with my own stylesheet override, but my local Roadgeek 4B didn't render as nicely, probably due to the difference in how Firefox renders SVG vs TTF fonts.
And if there's any desire to make the Clearview theme useable for more people, maybe consider adopting my letter-spacing and word-spacing adjustments as mentioned above.
