Anybody have written down (either mentally or on paper) highways that they eventually want to cover in their own lifetime that have not yet done.
For me I want to clinch US 2's western part going west from St. Ignace, MI to Everett, WA.
Also to do these:
I-49 newly completed freeway segments.
I-10 across Texas end to end.
I-69 in Southern IN
US 31 (again) in IN covering the new bypass freeways.
What plans do you each have to cover roads in your life?
The entire interstate system. I've got time.
I also want to do all of old 66, maybe even in one trip.

Lincoln Highway, Route 66 (I've done Illiinois to Oklahoma, but am still finding sections I missed), National Road, Jefferson Highway. Also my "namesake" US 71 (I've covered most of Iowa south to Louisiana, but am still finding older sections).
All the interstate and US highways in Indiana I have yet to clinch, which is:

I-69 north of US 50
I-469 east/north of US 33
US 24 east of US 27, between I-69 and IN 13, and west of US 41

Beyond that, I'd like to finish off the only stretch of I-94 I'm missing, which is from Detroit to Port Huron, and the only stretch of I-96 I'm missing, which is the eastern 4 miles.
My near term goal is to finish the Idaho highway system at some point this summer. I would love to clinch the US highway system as well.
Beyond that, just clinch the highway sutems of as many states and provinces as possible before I keel over.
The big ones, for me, are U.S. 20, U.S. 50, U.S. 60, U.S. 11, and U.S. 191. Then there's some secondary stuff like following SR 200 through MN-SD-MT-ID, then continue on WA20. I also want to follow what would have been the route of U.S. 120 for the minute that it connected Erie to Philadelphia, though that's much more attainable in the near future.

The Mauna Loa observatory road.

Pretty much this. I want to finish Michigan, then once that's done, figure out what state to do next, then figure out another state to do after that, and so on until I'm dead.
The Interstate Highway System, US highway system, and Trans-Canada Highway would all be neat. There's a number of auto trails I'd like to drive - not just the big east-west ones like the Lincoln Highway, but also the Dixie Highway and some lesser known state/regional ones.
I'm honestly a lot more interested in collecting counties, state highpoints, and occasionally county highpoints than clinching highways, though. And often it seems like you need to choose between completing a highway and visiting a county... :-/

All the split US routes (except maybe 6N and 9W). I have all of 11E, 11W, 19E, 19W, 25E, 25W, 31E and 31W. I also have some mileage on the splits of 45 and 70. I'd like to finish those and the split routes of 49. (Am I missing any off the top of my head?)
I'd like to finish up the Interstate system, but that's unlikely to happen quickly. I have over 3/4 of the mileage done, but what's left is very widely scattered.
As for individual I routes, I'd like to fill in my gaps in I-80, I-70, and I-10 to go with my completed I-40 and I-90. Also like to fill in my missing miles on I-75 and I-95. That's much more doable.
For US highways, US 1, US 20, US 41, and US 101 interest me the most.
Closer to home, I'd like to finish up the other NY routes that go through my home town: NY 5 and NY 30. I've already finished NY 5S and NY 67.
Much further from home and very unlikely to happen any time soon, I'd like to clinch a lot more of Europe's highways.
All the secondary routes in Chesterfield County, VA. Much, much harder than it sounds, as there are now over 7000 of them. If the county takes over maintenance, this would become moot.

In the longer term, the Trans-Canada system, US-29, and the M4 in England/Wales (I've driven most of it but haven't been west of Bristol, and I'm missing a small segment on the north side of Heathrow).
I would also like to do the Eyre Highway in Australia.
If not all Ontario King's Highways, I want to at least clinch the 400-series. So far I'm missing: most of 400 and 403, one block of 404, 406, 407 (haha no), most of 410, a little bit of 416 and 417, one block of 420 (I thought I clinched it, but CMAP says it's there), the east end of the Gardiner, and all of the QEW south of Niagara Falls.
Then when I get back to the Philippines, I want to do some roadtripping. So far I've only clinched three of those highways I numbered. I'm probably gonna make something similar to CMAP and mob-rule to keep track of it. :)
TL;DR: Ontario 400-series, Philippine expressways.
The "four corners" route: I-95 north to Boston, I-90 west to Seattle, I-5 south to Los Angeles, I-10 east to Jacksonville, and I-95 north back home. It must be done. (How long would that even take?)

The US Highways equivalent: US 1 north to Maine, US 2 West to Washington, US 101 South to California, US 98 East to Florida, US 1 South to Key West, US 1 North back home. Fill in the missing gaps favoring US highways and state highways over Interstates.

The Florida segment is done, so now I think in the near term I've set my sights on finishing off Maryland's Interstates. Don't have much left, just a few segments in the Baltimore area, but finding time to go up there and deal with it isn't the easiest thing sometimes, especially with summertime traffic. Maybe next weekend–my wife is going out of town for a high-school reunion, so it might be the ideal time to hit the roads for a few hours!

U.S. 50 between Lake Tahoe, California and Redhouse, Maryland (I've driven all of it in Maryland, both parts, but I don't recall how far west in to West Virginia I have been).
I am not really that much into clinching routes, but since I "have" so much of I-95, it would be nice to finish it off.
U.S. 50 and I-70 have other things that interest me.

How close are you to that? There's some beautiful (and lonely) roads in the UP. I've got most of the Illinois part of the Chicago region clinched (mostly by virtue of exploring), but I couldn't imagine clinching all of Illinois for love or money.

I hear you on the county versus highway clinch choice.
My bucket list for clinching would be pretty short.
Would you consider I-39 clinched if you were a passenger on it when it was US-51 in WI up to Wasuau?

There's of course more I'd like to do, but those are some more realistic ones (although Alaska probably won't happen for a while)
EDIT: I just realized I've clinched all of Oregon's US highways except for sections of US-30, US-26 between Madras and Prineville (have no reason to drive there normally, and it's just farmland), and parts of it in Portland, US-95 from OR-78 to NV, and the business/bypass loops, if you want to count those. I should get on that.

That's the segment I knocked off last month (Golden Glades to Fort Pierce). I'm glad I did it ONCE for purposes of progress towards the clinch and because I'd have wondered how it was. I feel no need ever to use it again and will stick with the Turnpike in the future! The segment around Port St. Lucie is a nice road (though a longer distance than the Turnpike). The urban segments, not so much.
I would like to clinch US 41, US 31, the former US 66, US 19, US 23, US 25, US 11 and US 412. I would like to clinch I-94 and I-90.
Dream clinch: US 1 since it's the longest N/S highway in the lower 48.
Realistic clinch: US 395. I have covered it from San Diego (1974) when this was still the number for what became I-15/215 to Bishop (2013), a small stretch by Lakeview OR and the cosigned US 20/395 part. There's still plenty of countryside to see on this less taken path and I look forward to it!

My Personal Highway Clinch Bucket List:
Short term:
- Finish all of the US highways in MD, DC, VA. I'm missing a surprising amount in MD and DC. The stuff I'm missing in MD is either in Western MD or near DC. I could probably knock everything out in two days. As for VA, that's going to take much more effort, since I'm essentially missing the stuff in the corners (near DC, Hampton Roads, and the southwest).
- US 6 in Pennsylvania
- US 46 in New Jersey
Long term:
- I-95. Only missing parts in Maine and Florida.
- All of the US highways in PA
- All of the Maryland state routes
- One of the many alignments of old US 66
- Drive in all 50 states!
I have a couple future trips in store that will get me I-64 out to I-75 in Lexington, I-75 from there to Northern KY, US 17 from I-64 in Newport News to I-95 (I already have some of it) near Fredericksburg, and US 1 from Fredericksburg to Richmond.
Other Top Wanted Clinches:
1. I-77 (US 460 to I-64 in WV, might get that in August-would give me entire route up to Charleston, WV)
2. US 13 (eventually up to Newark, DE but specifically US 58 in Chesapeake to US 50 in Salisbury, MD)
3. VA 10 (VA 31 in Surry to its eastern terminus in Suffolk-would give me entire route)
4. VA 28 (entire route)
5. US 50 (VA 28 to I-495 (Exit 50) specifically, farther east to US 301 in MD I still need though)
