Very glad to see this improvement finally open tomorrow (5/23). Here's an interesting quote about the length of continuous high occupancy vehicle lane along I-5 and I-405, starting from a point north of San Clemente all the way to the 405-101 junction:
Quote
"The 405 Freeway through the Sepulveda Pass, linking the San Fernando Valley and the Westside, is one of the nation's busiest traffic spots..." reads the site of area representative Zev Yaroslavsky, LA County Supervisor, Third District. "The new northbound lane will close a gap in the 405's high-occupancy vehicle network and create the nation's longest continuous carpool lane. For the first time, it will be possible for a carpooler can now drive seamlessly from the Orange County border [on I-5 near San Clemente] to the 101 Freeway."
However, the HOV lane goes all the way to near Rinaldi St, well north of US 101. The gap closure is only from I-10 to US 101 - northbound. Not sure why they would disregard the rest of the lane through the San Fernando Valley.
Also the south end of the car pool lane starts just north of CA-1, not at the Orange County line.
How strict are they on enforcing the use of HOV/CARPOOL lanes there? There is only one that I'm aware of in all of Louisiana!
