Ground was broken today on the $2.7 billion effort, which will create some delays before it's completed in 2014.

Turnpike officials say the project will create or sustain 18,000 jobs, with 4,500 going directly construction work.

A 25-mile segment north of Mansfield will be doubled to 12 lanes to extend the configuration for car and truck lanes that exists north of it.

A 10-mile segment south of East Brunswick will be expanded from 10 lanes to 12.

HURRAH!  Finally!  As soon as work gets started on Interchange 8, I'll try to arrange a meet centered around the widening and the future SPUI.  Other features would be NJ 133, NJ 32, and I'll try to stick in a couple of surprises.  Probably figure this as a spring 2011 meet, but could be fall 2010 if construction moves ambitiously,

I'm definitely there. I'm down that way so often now anyway, it seems. I just went to Philly for the 3rd time in a month on Friday.

Turnpike widening to affect I-195 traffic (http://content.usatoday.net/dist/custom/gci/InsidePage.aspx?cId=delawareonline&sParam=35453385.story)

QuoteROBBINSVILLE, N.J. (AP) – Drivers using Interstate 195 where it crosses the New Jersey Turnpike will soon see a different traffic pattern.

Lanes will be shifted to the right in both directions beginning Wednesday night as work gets under way to lengthen the I-195 bridges over the turnpike in Mercer County.

The bridges need to be lengthened to accommodate the widening of the turnpike underneath.

Work has been under way to widen the turnpike to 12 lanes between Exit 6 in Burlington County and Exit 9 at New Brunswick. Construction began in 2009 and is expected to be completed by late 2014.
