Title: Old Maps of Grand Junction, CO
Post by: roadman65 on May 27, 2014, 10:34:32 PM
I was interested in finding pre I-70 maps of Grand Junction, CO.  It seems that Google is no help at all as all their findings show maps of post I-70.  Does anyone have links or even copies to post here?

Unfortunately, you'll need to track down hard-copy state maps of Colorado pre-1989 (when the final section of I-70 through Glenwood Canyon was completed), and pre-1964 if you don't want to see the I-70 segment through Grand Junction at all.

When I poke around some of the thrift & antique stores around GJ, I'll crack open any old Colorado (or Utah) map, just to see what it was like driving through Western Colorado when it was just a little town.  I still don't have any old CO maps in my possession, though.

I joke around and say we are so big, we now have just as many malls as they do in Toledo, OH, where I used to live. (For the record, Toledo had as many as 4 traditional malls in the 80s -- now they are down to 1, while GJ has had it's only mall since the early 80s).

I suspect you're looking for something a little newer than from 1881, but ...

I have just about all of the historic CDOT maps posted here:

The earliest one that includes an inset of Junction is 1931.
