Title: 69 new photos from a GEORGIA trip!
Post by: bandit957 on June 11, 2014, 10:45:50 PM
Last month's trek to Georgia yielded 69 photos. Peep, weep, and oggle-beep...

Thanks for sharing. Odd that sights that are so familiar to me can still be so enjoyable. :)

QuoteBoulevard goes under this structure, which appears to have regular rail and an access road - plus a rapid transit line above that.

Indeed it does. That's actually the entrance to a multimodal terminal, which controversially replaced a disused railyard in the '80's. It might not even be operational anymore.

This pic is the entrance, configured to allow access only from the south:

I wish I'd know you were going there-- I would've sent you a few blocks east, to the Old Fourth Ward Park (https://www.google.com/maps/@33.7683586,-84.364933,340m/data=!3m1!1e3), which I did most of the layout on. I think it's the coolest thing I've ever built. :)

Look closely at this one: See where the box girder carrying MARTA gets shallower over the right lane of the freeway? There used to be a pier there. When the freeway was widened, they built what amounts to a big concrete "hand" that grasps the top of the pier, an "elbow" with a supporting pier of its own, and a "shoulder" with yet another supporting pier-- the "arm" is posttensioned vertically into the "shoulder." The ramp from Decatur Street passes between the elbow and the shoulder. After that, they removed the original pier to allow the freeway to pass through.

I like this album! (since I literally go by these places every day  :D ). My favorites are the Krog Street Tunnel and the overpasses that go over I-75/85 at once (MARTA/Decatur St.). It's a nice tandem of flyovers that's nice to see when you're driving up and down that freeway.

I like bandit's pictures because he takes pictures from a different perspective than most road enthusiasts do with their sign pics.

Here is a picture of the exit ramp getting on I-75 Northbound from I-285 Eastbound in Smyrna, GA (Atlanta) https://www.flickr.com/photos/127069931@N04/14985357022/

Took this on my trip back from Hilton Head Island, SC in mid June 2014.
