You know what I'm talking about – inexplicably tiny text in an otherwise normal sign. For example:

Where else?
On US 167 south of Jonesboro in the Wyatt community, the northbound lanes have only 1 lil green sign that has only the name "Wyatt"...in clearview no less...in Louisiana's newer MUCH smaller size of directional signs. The U-channel post it is mounted on is even larger than the sign itself. Unfortunately, the Goog's map imagery is from several years ago when the construction project to widen the highway to 4 lanes.
Chicagoland, in general, where it puts the name of the expressway up on the guide sign. They might be 6" letters at best.
Pennsylvania loves to do this with truck speed limits.

I have often wondered about the legal culpability of whoever runs afoul of info printed this small. Granted, you are expected to know rules of the road, but can you really be held accountable for the several fine-print pages of regs posted on high-speed roadways at every New Jersey Turnpike entrance?
I think it was Oklahoma who had signs

MUTCD specified the verbiage starting in the 2003 edition as BRIDGE ICES BEFORE ROAD (W8-13)
When I think of "Eye Chart" signs, I always think of New York State:

We've discussed this before, but Texas is just now going to
Bridge May Ice In Cold Weather Arkansas is slowly going to
Bridge Ices Before Road , but very slowly.
This one's not too far from me.

I've always wished schools around here would do a 7 AM-9 AM and 2 PM-4 PM (or similar) School Zone instead of the blanket 7 AM-5 PM that people like to ignore when the kids are in the middle of school, but I think that one's a bit overboard!
I thought I heard they simplified the times (and sign) to one period in the morning, and one period in the evening). Can you confirm that sign is still erected?
Why not just simplify it to "When Children are Present"?
Going to the exact minute is pure craziness. But officer, my clock only says it's 2:02...

In my observations, when it says When Children are Present, nobody at all follows it (and I don't see it enforced very heavily). It's also ambiguous. I always believed it to mean when children are present near the roadway, but my parents thought it meant when they're present at school. I know Bend has gotten rid of some of their signs that said that in favor of the 7AM-5PM ones that people generally sort of follow. Although that last argument could still apply to those. I know I've sped through school zones at like 4:58 before for that reason.
Why not just have a blinking light above the sign that is programmed to start blinking at certain times?

That's certainly the best way to do it, as long as the times are reasonable and don't mess up on school holidays, during the summer, etc. Bend doesn't use them though, as far as I'm aware. Nampa has one near the high school, but most of the others are just 7-5 or similar.

This is utilized in New Jersey, as seen here in Princeton off of Great Rd / CR 601: https://www.google.com/maps/@40.376579,-74.696896,3a,25.7y,206.77h,95.09t/data=!3m4!1e1!3m2!1sh0fD-TE0NmytjojvnFrOgw!2e0
I've seen blinking lights in Massachusetts.
Once, the blinking light was on during the weekend.
^^ GA also uses blinking lights.

This beauty's an eyechart and a reading comprehension sign.. especially when you consider that you're generally doing at least 75 mph as you pass this one. (It's also not long for this world, as the I-15 agricultural inspection station in Yermo that it's warning of several miles ahead will be moving about a hundred miles north to near Primm soon.)
Yes, the sign warns that vehicles "entering" California blah blah blah... about a hundred miles after you've entered the state.
Many towns around Wisconsin have similar lovely winter parking restriction signs like this one (https://www.google.com/maps?ll=43.446548,-88.190475&spn=0.000016,0.013937&t=m&z=17&layer=c&cbll=43.446465,-88.19041&panoid=2DELD0Nnn_cNFnWTieGNxA&cbp=12,182.91,,2,3.07) as you enter their community. Ironically, you have to park to be able to take in everything they post on it.
One of the "better ones" (https://www.google.com/maps?ll=43.145376,-89.305458&spn=0.000016,0.013937&t=m&z=17&layer=c&cbll=43.145189,-89.305463&panoid=B9elgrkRHMQI4VxfZgN1sg&cbp=12,187.19,,0,11.36)...

I'll have to swing by there and take a look. It's not a a road I normally travel.
