As of Sunday, July 12th, tolls have gone up on New York City bridges and tunnels operated by the MTA. Now, it will cost $11 in cash to cross the Verrazano Narrows Bridge, and $5.50 in cash in each direction to cross the Throgs Neck, Whitestone, RFK (Triboro) Bridges, Queens-Midtown and Brooklyn-Battery Tunnels. Well, MTA does have like a 10% budget deficit (over 1 billion dollars)... operating rail cost a lot more money than it brings in, and New York has a lot of it. Users of the bridges have to fill in that gap. Try to raise the subway tolls with 10%...

Wasn't there a "revolt" the last time that MTA tried to raise subway and companion agency Metro-North tried to raise commuter rail fares?
Actually, the base subway fare already went up from $2 to $2.25 and commuter rail fares have also gone up. The hike is across the board. And it would have been larger had Albany not passed some new funding legislation.
