Title: Ivan and Farindale, AR bypasses (US 167)
Post by: bugo on July 25, 2014, 04:06:58 AM
Looking at the new Arkansas highway map, it shows US 167 to be 4 lanes from the Saline River to I-530/US 65, for a stretch in Cleveland County, and from south of Ivan to Fordyce.  Are bypasses going to be built?  Also, is US 167 between Thornton to El Dorado going to be 4 laned or is the US 79-AR 7 going to serve as the defacto routing between those two towns?  That is the original US 167 alignment.

Just looked at some aerial maps and it seems that the Ivan stretch is being 4 laned.  Is it going to be a geniune 4 lane expressway or a 5 lane "Arkansas freeway"?  What will the speed limit be?

US 167 between Thorton and the Ouachita River @ Calion is THE longest, most boring drive EVER!  I haven't really noticed traffic really being thick on this route, but all it takes is just one slow poke in front of you to make this agonizing drive even worse.

If AHTD would widen this stretch, a higher speed limit would reduce the amount of time driving this desolate area.
