Title: Very Poor Signal Visability at Temp Setup in Texas
Post by: Brian556 on September 04, 2014, 02:15:11 AM
This is in Lewisville, Texas, on the I-35E southbound frontage road detour at FM 407.
The left lane makes a left turn through the signalized intersection. This is the detour for the southbound frontage road.
You cannot see the signal head for your direction until you get right up to the stop bar. To make matters worse, you can see the signal heads that are for cross traffic, which could cause confusion. This will surely cause accidents.

That is indeed a bad setup. If possible, the detour frontage road should turn in the direction of the intersection further from it than it does there.

They did add louvers to the westbound FM 407 signal heads, but unfortunately, they did not add the additional signal head.

Also, notice the lack of route marker signage/detour signage.

This pic is from the Contractor's FB Page. It was taken shortly before traffic was moved to the new configuration. The signal issue is in the NW corner of the intersection, near the go-kart track
