And there FritzOwl's Six Californias Plan gets flushed down the proverbial toilet.  I guess there won't be an interstate over Half Dome after all.

This always seemed like a really dumb idea to me. For one thing, some metro areas would have ended up being divided into separate states (looks like the OC is split from LA, which doesn't really make sense).

It looked like a plan around the idea that the interests of the poor would really be better served if they were made no longer the problem of the rich.  That Central Valley/Sierras state should have been named some Spanish word that means "migrant workers and foreclosures."

I think the term you're looking for is "Mexican Hep Catistan".  X-(

This seems like a really weird thing for someone from Washington DC to say.  I'm sure there a bunch of reasons why this was a horrible idea, but given how common metro areas crossing state lines is elsewhere, this isn't one of them.

Metro areas that were built in separate states is far different than taking an existing metro area and splitting between states. I'd say it was a valid reason. It would create problems with taxation, utilities, transportation, and many other issues.
