Hi, Could you fix the image of "interstate 80/294 in 2000" because it is showing the red "x" please.
Hm, there's nothing wrong with it that I can tell...I'm seeing the red X too though.
Instead of reposting the whole thing, try finding a different link for the first one and edit your original post. ;-)

I don't have any before and after pictures taken in the US but here's one from the UK showing a typical speed limit reduction which is affecting our country badly.

Are those lights or video enforcement on those signs?
Also, I assume those speeds are kph.
Those are lights above the signs. They're there for a reason - on lit roads the signs must also be lit otherwise they don't apply. If you're caught speeding at night and the bulb has failed you can claim not to have seen the sign and get the violation revoked.
The speed limits are in MPH, I believe the US and UK are the only countries still using imperial measurements for speed, Ireland switched to kph a few years ago and Canada has been using metric even longer.
Here's a "Then and Now" near where I grew up -- the CA 1/CA 17 interchange (a.k.a. "The Fishhook") in Santa Cruz, CA.
First, a picture from December 2001 (from westcoastroads.com):

Next, the "Now," taken by me in October 2008 after the 2.5 year widening project at the interchange:

Well, that's what nearly 60 years of tree growth can get you. This interchange was built in two phases between the 1940's and 1950's. Caltrans says that it will replace all of the lost trees over the next 3 years at something like a 3:1 ratio.

it is one of four known state-named shields in Tennessee (not counting the ubiquitous post-1982 state route markers). No known state-named interstates (please! won't somebody find one for us!) and that US-25E, a pair of US-78s in Memphis...
the remarkable thing about that 78 pair is that they sit on current, mainline US-78 - not an obscure side street or anything. the only reason no one has gone and stolen them yet is that they are difficult to remove (you'd have to set your stepladder into the middle of traffic) and too badly worn to be all that valuable.
and there is another 25E which is clearly of recent, local manufacture, but it they must've decided to carbon-copy an older sign, because it says "Tennessee US 25E", just like back in the day. the shield shape is wrong, the fonts are wrong; I do not yet have it uploaded to the shield gallery but apart from it being a rude facsimile of a classic sign, it really isn't much to write home about. let's just say I found out that it existed about 6 months ago, and I have not yet knocked over heaven and earth to log into Orbitz and book a plane ticket to photograph it.
I also know of two of the old triangle route markers with the TENN... a 68 and a 99. So that makes six old-style markers in existence in TN.

On a trip to Gatlinburg, Tenn. many years ago with my wife, I saw two state-named I-40 shields southbound on Winfield Dunn Parkway approaching the interstate at Exit 407. Unfortunately, I didn't have my camera at the ready and had already gotten on I-40 before what I saw had registered. I always said I would remember to get a photo the next time we went back, as we were regular vacationers there, but alas we haven't been back since and it's been 11 years. With the amount of development north of the exit since then, and what appears to be a minor widening of the road a bit north to accommodate the Bass Pro Shops and baseball stadium, I'd say those signs are long-gone.

Yes, but that only started very recently (2010? 2011?) and I'm pretty sure these signs were replaced before that change.
All the HOT lane signage, however, is new enough to be in E(M). It's a little hard to make out, but that next BGS at the far left of the photo is E(M).

Another before/after shot. This one is the CA-58 eastern terminus on I-15.

I'm not quite sure what's possessing Caltrans and/or contractors to use a down-arrow as an up-and-right arrow on exit direction signs. The exit direction signs on I-580 at the new Isabel Avenue interchange also use this type of arrow. I find it aesthetically unappealing.
At least the interstate shields are the proper shape and not the bubble or angular type seen back in the early 2000's.

Just some added guardrail along the route; this was around mile marker 270.
Ah, Florida's hills. That bridge is at the top of a ridge and you can see down into the valley heading northbound.
Looks like the cop has lost his hiding place although I see a crossover has been built near the bridge.

Same sign pre and post Amway Arena. The original arena was one part of the "Centroplex" along with the "Bob Carr" and when it closed to allow the new Amway Center (to the left in the after pic) there was only the Carr so no plex.
I like this thread. I'd like to join in on the fun as well.
Below, is a then and now of an intersection that exists on Staten Island, New York. Arthur Kill Rd. and Richmond Av. The first picture dates back to the late 1940s or so, while the other picture is of present day.

Two photos of the Exit 78 on I-4 Eastbound diverge point taken in 09 and of what it looks like as of today. I myself did not notice it at time of taking the latter, but not only was the "EXIT ONLY" tab changed, but so was the gantry.
Map of Virginia from back in the 1950s prior to the Interstate system. What's wild is that you could pretty much use this to navigate today! I find it interesting that US-17 west of where I-95 is now is shown as a Virginia State Route.

For comparison purposes, here's the roughly equivalent section of Virginia's current highway map (the green-colored roads denote "Virginia Byways," i.e., scenic roads):

It seems VDOT decided to contribute to this as well. From their Flickr page (which has spectacular photos), the Springfield Interchange in 1998:
