Title: I'm about to turn 40. Any advice?
Post by: golden eagle on November 03, 2014, 07:44:05 PM
I'll be a member of the over-40 club starting tomorrow. I tell people that 40 is the new 25. I don't feel like I am 40. I've begun exercising more, thanks to joining a gym a few months ago. I even have other people tell me at times that I don't look like I'm close to 40. If you're over 40, what was it like when you turned 40 and since then?

What was it like for me to turn 40? Simply... it sucked. It was right smack during the Great Recession in 2010, and I have yet to see a recovery.

Advice: Save like the dickens into your IRA/401(k)/other retirement fund. You will be very thankful when you retire at 70.

40 was just another birthday. Nothing special.

30 was traumatic. I'd just been dumped by someone I thought I was going to marry (in retrospect, it was one of the best things to ever happen to me) and I felt stuck in my job with no hope of finding something better.

But 40 was no big deal. Neither was 50.

I'm turning 40 next month. I'm more immature today than I was when I was 21.

Simply put...just have fun!!

Keep moving!  Don't stop to check your age.  Life will already remind you enough.  If you feel good, you are good.  40 is kind of funny when you don't feel 40.

I'll be turning 40 too.  Not worried about it.

jwolfer is right...age is nothing but a number.  It's all in your head.  Just keep on keepin-on and continue to kick ass & take names!!

Just keep in mind that getting older every day and adding a number to your age every year is way better than the alternative.

I'm 41 (my birthday is in May) and I've been asked to produce ID when buying beer or wine more times since turning 40 than I was in all the years of my 30s combined. I suppose I should be flattered, though in some cases (Verizon Center) I suspect they may just card everyone.

Otherwise, I found no difference whatsoever in my life.

Get a lawn so you can tell kids to get off it.

At my 40th birthday party (years ago), I was asked how it felt to turn 40.  My response:  No different than yesterday, when I was still 39!

I intend to use the same response (changing the numbers, of course) when I turn 50 in January.

If you think too much about it, you will feel it.

I turned 40 on September 10th, 2001, figuring "well, no big deal, it's just another day."  After the events of September 11th, 2001, my immediate reaction to family and friends was "Well, I sure didn't expect the world to fall apart so quickly after turning 40!"

40 was no big deal.  Even 50 was no big deal.  The big deal comes when parents have to go into a nursing home or burying them.

Advice?  Do the things that you want to do, because you never know what's going to come along to keep you from doing them later.

I have one. I've had to tell a few neighborhood kids to keep their stuff off of it.

I've been to Yolo County. It was a couple of months ago when I visited Sacramento for the first time.
