Being from Chicago, these types of light poles have always been my favorite:

However, in recent years they've been replaced by the more contemporary style seen here:

Also, these high-mast lights have been another favorite of mine: https://www.google.com/maps/@41.8332619,-87.6303059,3a,75y,166.65h,108.15t/data=!3m4!1e1!3m2!1sF2OiENvDq63GexYue3eVUw!2e0
And finally, here's a myriad of different light poles along the Dan Ryan Expressway: https://www.google.com/maps/@41.8414223,-87.6305532,3a,75y,6.81h,87.4t/data=!3m4!1e1!3m2!1sQTsxevSZpziGQ2Ugjo33tQ!2e0
North Pole, Alaska has candy-cane streetlight poles (http://www.alaskaroads.com/north-pole-light-pole-large.jpg).
I'd have to say these are my favorite: https://www.google.com/maps/@32.8309048,-83.6542169,3a,75y,199.82h,87.67t/data=!3m4!1e1!3m2!1sPxKJ3Iw-vhTdouYyeSgEQQ!2e0
But these are a close second, for these are pretty cool as well: https://www.google.com/maps/@30.8380905,-83.3278521,3a,75y,324.92h,89.79t/data=!3m4!1e1!3m2!1sK0uU3ExK3VTgdosjOt4ybQ!2e0
Any that have an old or retro design.
Love these:

I've always liked the olde style Toronto streetlights:

Along motorways and other large roads, I quite like our modern gantry street lights (http://goo.gl/maps/kjwIq), while in cities I prefer the wider older version (http://goo.gl/maps/4fkOc). I'm also quite fond of these round residential area street lights (http://goo.gl/maps/KnQDS).
God Jul!

In American English, these are generally called
high-mast lighting systems - though around the U.S., "solid" steel poles are generally used instead of the lattice structures (which I think are attractive in their own way, and look "lighter" than a "solid" pole).

Similar can be found in the U.S.

Not sure, but they look old.
My favorite types are ones that hold lights that work.
