Hi,
The name is Andrew, I've been a roadgeek for quite some time and a long time lurker on this site. Finally I bit the bullet and created an account, but I don't know how often I'll post. I'm from Chicago, and work for a traffic gathering company, it's the best!
Welcome!
Definitely tell us more about the traffic gathering company you work for. What does the company do? More specifically, what do you do (Well, as specific as you're allowed to get without getting in trouble!!)? No doubt you can give us some insight into stuff many of us wonder out loud about!
I work for HERE, which is part of Nokia, which basically analyzes traffic for GPS systems (which I would never, ever, think of using btw) and online maps. I find accidents and other problems with the roads (California is notorious for having weird stuff wind up on their freeways) by checking government sites and listening to scanners. It's a really fun gig.
Welcome to the forum, Andrew! Glad you decided to come aboard. Out of curiosity, what is it you check specifically on government sites in relation to your job?
I check for any accidents or anything that might be blocking lanes of traffic that has been reported, for whatever part of the US I'm covering. So if I'm looking for traffic in New Jersey I'd use this site: http://www.511nj.org/IncidentList.aspx?listType=IncidentsCongestion
Hello from crazy Winnipeg!
