Title: PennDOT Agrees to Commercial Terms on Public-Private Bridge Partnership
Post by: Hoss6884 on January 12, 2015, 01:38:34 PM
Hopefully this (http://www.dot.state.pa.us/Internet/pdNews.nsf/1a85687faea1e0cf8525673000645089/e63c980c6561a36f85257dcb006459df?OpenDocument) means we do not have to deal with truck routes (like US 30 in Imperial (http://cmap.m-plex.com/hb/hwymap.php?sys=allav&rg=usa.pa&gr=p&r=pa.us030trkimp&showint=0&dl=0)) that form wrong-way concurrencies with their parent route much longer.

Huh? That truck route logically begins at I-376 exit 60 (and actually makes a good deal of sense as a permanent truck route). The supposed piece along US 22 is simply the way for trucks to get from US 22 east to US 30 west.

QuoteThe team will manage the bridges' design, construction and maintenance for 25 years after construction under the public-private partnership (P3) contract. It will also be responsible for securing the capital necessary for construction which will begin in the summer of 2015 and all 558 bridges must be replaced within 36 months. PennDOT will maintain ownership of the bridges.

Based on the average cost to fix a bridge and the timeline quoted in the article, we're talking about a billion dollars worth of work in 3 years.  Simply on a practical level, that's a lot of jobs to find quality workers for.  Labor costs will undoubtedly go up as these projects go out to bid, raising the costs of these projects.
