Title: Shortest numbered and signed state route
Post by: ajlynch91 on February 03, 2015, 10:04:10 AM
I've been curious as to what some examples are of the shortest signed routes. Not unsigned, since given that I've seen examples of unsigned "routes" being about 20 feet long, like MD-990 for instance...

I know NJ 165 (a .26 mile route) has a street blade sign on NJ 29 for some odd reason. I'm not sure if NJ 59 or NJ 64 have any signage referring to them.

State Route 906 Spur in Washington is the shortest signed highway I've driven, I think. SRWeb says .44 miles.
(https://www.aaroads.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.corcohighways.org%2Fhighways%2F906SPUR%2F906towsdot%2F1.JPG&hash=b43fff6ac3d5140c738e396cc84e24c0eb704777)

Link 44C in Nebraska is quite short too.

North Carolina's shortest route NC 400 is signed and is 0.49 miles WB.

Off the top of my head I believe South Carolina's shortest primary route is US 701 Bus for Tabor City NC, signed on its 900 ft length.

Both VT-26 and VT-119 are about 1/8 of a mile, continuations of NH route from bridges across the river to the nearest road on the VT side.  Both fully signed.

In Rhode Island, it's probably RI-152, a short continuation of MA-152, less than 1/2 mile.

Those are not separate routes. VT/NH/MA 119 is a single route, and VT/NH/ME 26 is a single route. The same applies for all routes that keep their number across borders in New England.

LA 415 Spur is .46 miles and is probably the most traveled, shortest, and signed route in Louisiana. It's part of the connecting route from US 190 eastbound to I-10 coming into Baton Rouge. I know Louisiana has a ton of much shorter routes, but there are very few signed.

Texas Loop 168 is 0.074 mile, about 400 feet long.  It's nearly unsigned, though (which is rare in Texas). There's only one sign pointing to it on northbound Loop 157.  I'd probably say it doesn't count since it isn't a dead end and doesn't have at least one sign on each side.

VA 132Y in Williamsburg which serves the Colonial Williamsburg Information center is one of VA's shortest at 0.29 miles.

Then VA 162 is also another short one, even shorter than the VA 132 Spur at 0.17 miles.

NM 29  I believe would qualify  for New Mexico's shortest  2 digit   route.  It goes from downtown Chama  to  dead end about a half mile NE  of town.  It used to go much further towards  the Colorado border.

Alabama State Route 208 is signed for all of 0.8 miles. There's also an END sign at it's western terminus (no need for one at the Georgia border).

AL 151 and AL 209 are even shorter, haven't seen the signage for myself.

Never knew about that one...

Not sure why they didn't just leave CR 437 signs up, but perhaps just for navigation's sake FDOT opted for the white shields.

I can't remember if Truck OR 204's signed, but it only clocks in at one block long in Elgin, connecting OR 82 to Truck OR 82. Speaking of, Truck 82 and Truck OR 131 in Tillamook aren't especially long... and OR 131 itself, running between Oceanside and Tillamook, is one of Oregon's shorter highways (not the shortest mainline though... 103 and 104 are shorter).

Allow me to add LA 805 in Athens:  .4 mile, as measured by my company truck's odometer.

I only see one shield referring to that road as a state route, and that shield refers to it as "913", not 913C. I'm sure 913C exists but I'm not sure if it's signed or not. Given how extensive Kentucky's state route system is, I'd love to find an official log of all of it's routes, both signed and unsigned. Looking at KTC website thus far has proven fruitless.

It's not exactly a log, but http://apps.transportation.ky.gov/HIS_Reports/TruckWeightLimitsParam.aspx is a (poorly-sorted) list of all routes. If you have the number, it's simple enough to use the Goog (http://www.google.com/search?&q=site%3Atransportation.ky.gov%2FPlanning%2FState+Primary+Road+System+Lists%2F+%22KY+913C%22).

Look at "SPRS Lists" and there is a county-by-county listing of routes, with descriptions, mileage and classification (Interstate, parkway, state primary, state secondary, rural secondary and supplemental).

KY 913C actually was KY 913 until Blankenbaker Parkway was extended to Taylorsville Road (KY 155).  The "C" looks like it was affixed to the existing sign.

Not even close to the shortest (which has been mentioned earlier in the thread, Route 265 in Weed).

http://www.cahighways.org/stats1.html

Using the most broad definition of "signed" (that is, with ANY usage of the route shield, even if only at junctions), it'd be basically 77 (though I haven't seen that in person), 153, 265, 282, 207, 262, 114 (which has one or two shields off of 101).

I'm not sure if NJ 59 or NJ 64 have any signage referring to them.

Both get a single traffic light blade: 59 (https://maps.google.com/maps?ll=40.317395,-74.620106&spn=0.016295,0.033023&t=m&z=16&layer=c&cbll=40.31739,-74.620327&panoid=nf0e1jAQu4BKyyGn4Rphzw&cbp=12,66.84,,0,-9.88) 64 (https://maps.google.com/maps?ll=40.65489,-74.313465&spn=0.003671,0.016512&t=m&z=17&layer=c&cbll=40.654887,-74.313465&panoid=tHDejd1-qDj83XP9DTcXqg&cbp=11,205.85,,0,-2.81)

Right.  And NJ 62 is posted on one of the overhead signs on US 46.

State Route 906 Spur in Washington is the shortest signed highway I've driven, I think. SRWeb says .44 miles.

Washington State Route 504 Spur is pretty short too

as

I would have thought SR 9 Spur in Sumas would be shorter.  Then again, I haven't been to Sumas in about 10 years, so I'm unsure if it is signed anymore.

SR 529 Spur could also be a contender, with is just the 3 blocks between I-5 and Maple Street (The real SR 529).

North Dakota 91 in Harvey is signed (per GSV) along 7th St between ND 3 and US 52.  I think this is a newer state highway and it's hard to find any information about it, but from ND 3 to US 52 is roughly 1500 feet.

WIS 159 is the shorted *signed* route at 1.27 miles. It gives drivers from the south on US 12 a shortcut to Devil's Lake State Park near Baraboo.  The shortest *route* is Miller Park Way - designated but not marked as WIS 341.

There are a couple of very short examples in Virginia. VA 79 and VA 89, I believe.
