Title: RIP John Paul Hammerschmidt
Post by: US71 on April 02, 2015, 09:29:30 AM
Former US Representative  John Paul Hammerschmidt (http://5newsonline.com/2015/04/01/former-congressman-john-paul-hammerschmidt-dead-at-92/) of Arkansas has died. It was through his efforts that the Alma-Fayetteville portion of I-540 (now I-49) aka the John Paul Hammerschmidt Highway became reality.

Here is a photo of the December 1991 signing of the ISTEA legistation. Hammerschmidt is partially obscured but he does look quite old back in 1991. Robert Roe (died 2014) and Patrick Moynihan (died 2003) are deceased, but the others on the front row are still around.
