Title: US routes that concur with more that one interstates in one state
Post by: roadman65 on April 09, 2015, 11:28:39 AM
We have been having threads about US, Interstate, and even state concurrencies, well how about one of US routes that overlap two completely different interstates in one particular state.

We do have some that overlap the same interstate in one particular state like US 60 in Virginia with I-64 more than once, but how often does one particular US route concur with more than one interstate within one state's border?

So far I have come up with this:

US 322 in PA, four times with two consecutive: I-99, I-81, I-83, and I-95.
US 22 in PA two times: I-376 and I-78. (Used to be three times, but I-279 got truncated and its concurrency with US 22 became an extended one with I-376).
US 31 in Indiana two times: I-65, and both I-74 & I-465. (I count the three as two because I-74 and I-465 run concurrent where US 31 is with them).
US 95 in Nevada two times: I-515 and I-80.
US 83 in Texas two times: Thanks to I-2, we have now both I-2 and I-35.
US 59 in Texas three times and two of them consecutive: Now with I-69 and its child both being signed, we both now have I-69 and I-369 plus I-30.
US 74 in NC two times: I-26 and I-74.
US 64 in NC two times consecutively: I-40 and I-440 ( the third with I-495 is iffy as that road is not signed yet).
US 220 in NC three times: I-85,I-40, and the I-73 & I-74 pair.
US 64 in Tennessee two times: I-55 and I-24
US 17 in Georgia two times consecutively: Both I-16 and I-516.

Any others out there that do this two or more times?

US 30 is on I-405 and I-84 in Oregon if memory serves me right.  I don't know all the changes and connections for PDX that have been done over the years so maybe one of the other Oregon-based posters can confirm or deny this concurrency, albeit a very short one.

A few more in PA . . .
U.S. 220, with I-99 and I-180
U.S. 30, with I-76 and I-676 (consecutively), and I-376

A future one (eventually):  U.S. 15, with I-180 and I-99

One state highway that was formerly a U.S. route for good measure . . . PA 309, with I-81 and I-78

U.S. 220, with I-99 and I-180

Actually, US 220 in PA has three overlaps: I-99, I-80, and I-180.

U.S. 40 in Maryland has overlaps with I-68 and I-70, and runs parallel to a fairly long section of I-95 (but does not overlap with 95).

U.S. 17 in Virginia has overlaps with I-66 and I-95.

Minnesota:

US 12: I-94, I-394, I-35E (unsigned) (the I-35E bit is stretching, but technically)
US 52: I-94, I-694, I-35E (unsigned) ^
US 10: I-94, I-35W, I-694, I-35E
US 61: I-90, I-94

US 14 formerly qualified before the Waseca bypass opened and removed the I-35 duplex.

U.S. 17 in Virginia has overlaps with I-66 and I-95.

US 17 also overlaps with I-64 in Chesapeake VA

Also in Virginia:
US 52 with I-77 alone and again with I-81
US 220 with I-64, I-81, and I-581
US 460 with I-81 (C/D lanes anyway), I-85, and I-95

QuoteUS 74 in NC three times: I-40, I-26 and I-74.

US 74 also overlaps I-277

North Carolina also has:
US 19 - I-26 and I-240
US 23 - I-26 and I-240

US 52 will eventually have 3: I-85, I-285, I-74

South Carolina has:
US 17 - I-26 and I-95
US 29 - I-85 and I-185
US 76 - I-26 and I-126

Connecticut has no examples of this at all. Neither does New Jersey.

New York has no pure examples although it does have a few close cases:
- US 219's northern end is a pair of C/D roads for I-90. Same ROW but not the same pavement. Further south it has a legitimate concurrency with I-86.
- US 9 never actually shares pavement with I-787 but it does run astride it amidst a tangle of ramps for a good 3/4 mile after crossing into Albany. It has a legitimate concurrency with I-95.
- US 15 would have concurrencies with I-99, I-86, and I-390 if New York hadn't truncated it. But they did so it only is concurrent with I-99.

Here's an attempt to do Texas:

US 67 - I -30, I-35E
US 87 - 1-10, 1-27
US 287 - I-35W, I-40, I-44, I-45
US 190 - I-35, I-45

US 60 - I-27, I-40 Bus

I separated out the I-69's because they are a work in progress and I've stated what I understand to be currently true but I do have some uncertainties here. US 259 & 69 may not yet qualify but I understand they are planned to do so. Others on the forum should correct these as needed.

US 59 - I-30, I-35, I-69, I-369
US 77 - I-35, I-35E, I-37, I-69E
US 281 - I-37, I-44, I-69C
US 83 - I-2, I-35, I-69E

US 259 - I-20, future I-69?
US 69 - I-10, future I-69?

If you don't count the unsigned concurrencies with I-465, there are some I think of in Indiana.

U.S. 52 (for less than two miles with I-74 after crossing from Ohio, then with I-65 north of I-865)

U.S. 24, 30, and 33 (all in Fort Wayne, I-69 and I-469)

U.S. 6 (technicality, with I-80/94)

On the flip side, there isn't a single Interstate-US route concurrency in all of Vermont.  Closest would be a TRUCK US 2 along I-91 and I-93.

For Mississippi, there is an I-20/I-59/US 11/US 80 concurrency in Meridian (with MS 19 mixed in for good measure).  US 49 has concurrencies with I-20, I-55, and I-220.

In the future, if I-69 ever gets built, it's possible that US 61 would have concurrencies with both I-20 and the future I-69.

I can only think  of one US highway in New Mexico that concurs  with two interstates: US 84  with I-40 west of Santa Rosa and then with I-25 from Romeroville  to

In Idaho US 30 concurs with three interstates:  I-15, I-86 and I 84.

US 50 - I-44, I-255, I-435 and I-470
US 71 - I-29, I-49, and I-435
US 40 also has a brief concurrency with I-35 in KC along the section shared with I-70.
US 71 is also briefly concurrent with I-70 as the eastern part of the Downtown Loop, then is concurrent with I-35 up until the I-29 split.
US 24 is concurrent with both I-35 and I-70 on the north side of the Downtown Loop.
US 69 has concurrencies with I-635 and I-35.

To add another state, Louisiana has no examples of this - yet. Once I-49 "South" is designated, then US 90 will qualify (currently has a concurrency with I-10.)

Doesn't US 63 share pavement with both I-40 and I-55 in Arkansas?
