Title: PA: Why is this heliport here?
Post by: briantroutman on June 04, 2015, 06:19:47 PM
I was looking over the PennDOT official state map and noticed this heliport listed in rural Juniata County near Honey Grove. Google's satellite image (https://goo.gl/maps/yStAm) shows a clearly defined helicopter pad ("Stottle Memorial Heliport" ) situated behind what appears to be a farmhouse, but Street View (https://goo.gl/maps/hEBGl) suggests that there aren't any signs or other indications of its presence, just an unassuming residential-type driveway.

Don't know about that one, but in my area, the air ambulance system has such places all around.  The cops and ambulance guys know where they are, as do the pilots, so they are unsigned.

Probably owned by some rich family like Geraldo Rivera in Rumson, NJ.

https://www.airnav.com/airport/02P says it's for medical use and open to the public, but privately owned by the Sttottle Family. It's numerous miles from any hospital, so I assume this serves Honey Grove among other villages in the area, such as Reeds Gap.

It also appears this family is probably very wealthy.

WV has some remote heliports like this for medical transport use.
