I can say that I have been on all the interstates in Mississippi. Of course, not all on one trip, but I was able to complete this (for now) when I traveled on I-69 from Southaven to Tunica a couple of months ago. I say for now because once U.S. 78 is recommissioned to I-22, then my journey is incomplete. I didn't include non-interstate freeways like U.S. 78.
No it's sad for me to live in VA and say that I've never been on I-81(even though that will change in October) or I-77 :-(
I've got all the interstate miles in the last 2 states that I've lived in (OR and ID). The previous state, ND, I'm missing the section of I-29 north of Grand Forks.
--Andy
I've been on every mile of 2di in Ohio. I still need the northern part from I-74 to I-71 of I-275, however around Cincinnati to clinch all of the interstates. And in neighboring states, I have all of West Virginia, all of Indiana, all of Kentucky (still need two parkways, Mountain and Rogers for all the freeways), and all of Pennsylvania (except a small stretch of I-95 in Philadelphia).
I've also clinched all of Wyoming, Utah, Nevada, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Colorado, Oregon, Illinois, New Hampshire, and Maine (in addition to Indiana, West Virginia, and Kentucky).
So, 13 of 49 possible states.
Sykotyk
No, but then again I only just got my own car a couple months ago and you don't get an excuse to go somewhere every day.
More specifically, this is what I'm missing for Connecticut:
- I-84 west of exit 3
- I-91 between exits 8 and 17
- all of I-291
- all of I-691
- all of I-395
I have all of the Interstate and toll road mileage clinched in Pennsylvania.
As for other states: I have all of DE, MD, RI, and WV in their entirety, only the 2dis in NJ and OK, and only the 3dis in ME, OH, VA, and WY.
I've been on all the Interstates in Georgia save for I-59.
*EDIT* I meant Interstates. There are a few freeway sections that I've not been on in Georgia.
Be well,
Bryant
I have been on all of the interstates in Wisconsin, as well as all of them in Illinois north of and including I-72, plus the I-24/57 corridor into Kentucky.
Of the other states, I have been on all of the I-routes in:
-Delaware.
Mike
I have been in all the interstates in all four states I have lived in: CA, FL, MA, and now NM. NM is fairly simple: just 10, 25, 40.
I've only lived in 2 states, OR and AZ, and I've driven all of Oregon's interstates probably at least 10 times over, but thanks to I-15, that's not true for AZ. I've also clinched 3 of the 4 neighboring states' interstates, those 3 being WA, ID, and NV, but not even close on CA. I've also clinched Montana's, New Mexico's, and oddly Rhode Island's interstates (not that it was difficult).
I have all the interstate mileage in Kentucky. I also have all the interstate mileage in West Virginia.
I've clinched all of the Interstates for each state in which I have lived except for North Carolina. This includes AL, CA, DE, FL, and GA with sections of I-40 and 74 still needed for NC. Overall I have 19 states and DC clinched (https://www.aaroads.com/clinched/anitzman.html) and will have state number 20 tomorrow with I-20's clinching in LA!
As I mentioned, I've clinched the interstates in Mississippi, but as far as other limited-access roads I'm missing, according to my atlas:
U.S. 45 around Meridian, Tupelo north of U.S. 78/future I-22 and around Corinth
U.S. 78 east of Olive Branch to the Alabama border
U.S. 61 south of the merge with U.S. 49 at Clarksdale
MS 7 north of Oxford
I'm close to clinching interstates in Alabama. I'm missing I-59 northward from the I-20 split at Birmingham, I-459 between I-20 and I-59 east of the city, I-759 in Gadsden, all of I-565 and I-165 in Mobile.
I've been on every interstate in Oregon, just have not clinched 2 of them entirely..I-205 south of I-84, and I-84 east of Multnomah Falls. this however will change in the next month
I've also been on every interstate in Michigan, just have not clinched some entirely
Quote
Of the other states, I have been on all of the I-routes in:
-Delaware.
As have I, come to think of it, although really, that isn't saying much. Less than 40 miles of interstate there.
Sadly I've only clinched all of the Hampton Roads 3dis, and the only 2di I've driven on is I-64. Though I have been on all but I-66 in VA as a passenger.
That will, however, change shortly.
From my log, all Interstate mileage in: CT, DC, DE, MA, MD, NH, NJ, RI
(NY, all I'm missing is most of the I-90 part of the Thruway. VT, I believe I'm missing I-91 from I-89 to I-93. ME, I'm missing I-195 and the Maine Turnpike (formerly 495, now 95). PA, I'm missing the southern tip of I-99 and most of I-79.)
Edit: Hawaii, all I'm missing is the western end of I-H1 beyond Pearl Harbor.
I've done all interstate mileage at some point in my life in Washington and (strangely) New Hampshire, and I'm dangerously close with Oregon (just I-5 between Ashland and Eugene) and Idaho (just I-15 south of Pocatello), and I should have Wyoming done by the end of the year
Being that CT is such a small state areawise, it wasn't very difficult to drive every mile of Interstate we have. Honestly, I'm confident in saying I've seen it all in this state several times over. The only interstate in CT that I've only travelled the length of once (that I can remember) was I-691 which connects I-91 in Meriden to I-84 in Southington, as I just never have any real reason to be in that area.
I have driven every mile of every interstate in WV, a dozen times over. I have also, quite unintenionally done so in Delaware, Virginia, and Hawaii.
Leaving out 3dis I have been on at least part of every interstate in FL, SC, NC, KY, OH, PA, ME, and NV.
In the Netherlands, which is a country only about the size of 1/3rd of Ohio (population 16 million) has 1500 miles of freeways, and I have been on nearly every mile of them, give or take a few miles here and there (unimportant spurs). In Germany, I have driven 66% of the Autobahn network (which is 7,500 miles long) and about 45% of the French Autoroute network, which has a similar length of that of Germany.
I log my travelled freeways into an excel file, so I can calculate the percentage and number of kilometers driven of a certain freeway network.
I've been on every interstate in New Jersey except for I-278, and have clinched all of said NJ interstates except for I-95, I-195 and I-295.
I'm also only 3 interstates away from being on all of Pennsylvania's as well.
QuoteNo it's sad for me to live in VA and say that I've never been on I-81(even though that will change in October) or I-77
I meant to include I-381, I-581, and I-464 along with those
I have clinched all the Interstates in Connecticut...
Ohio, a bit different...i have all of 70, 71, 74, 75, 76. 77, 270, 470, 670, 271, 475, 675
I dont have all of I-80 or I-90 (missing 90 west of Euclid, and I-80 west of the I-76/80 split), and have very few segments of 471 and 480; and none of 490 and 680
I've been on every Interstate in Nevada...which isn't hard given only two 2dis (I-15 & I-80) and three 3dis (I-215, I-515, I-580). However, I haven't clinched I-80 through the central and eastern parts of Northern Nevada.
Not all, but most. Missing part of I-75 in SW FL and Miami, and a smidge of I-275 in St. Petersburg.
I've been on every mile of Interstate in Michiganm save for 18 miles of I-196 between Exits 44 (US 31 North) & 62 (CDH A-37). I hope to grab that either before or after the GR meet at the end of the month.
I've been on every one except I-220 in/near Shreveport. I've clinched every other mile in Louisiana.
In New York:Full length (clinched):Partial:
- I-481 (I don't remember ever going between the southern terminus and NY 5/92, but I may have)
- I-86, Painted Post-Elmira, Binghamton-Exit 79, the current eastern terminus. I continued on NY 17 to Exit 99 or 100 (I can't remember, it's a confusing setup), NY 52/55 in Liberty
- I-87, between I-90 and the Berkshire Connector
- I-88
- I-90 (clinched, except for the free section in Albany)
- I-190
- I-390
- I-490
I've been on every Interstate in the state of Michigan except for I-69 from I-96 to I-75.
I've certainly been on all the Interstates in Michigan, but have only clinched I-96, I-194, I-275, I-296, I-375, and I-496. Like Dan, I'll likely also finish I-196 on the day of the meet.
For the most part. The only one I can think of that I haven't been on in Texas is I-44. I've been on it in Oklahoma though. Granted, I haven't covered all the interstates in Texas in their entirety, but I have been on parts of them.
I've managed to traverse (either as driver or passenger) at least some of every interstate in PA except:
I-380
I-84
I-180... I've been at both it's endpoints on separate occasions. (going from US-220 N to US 15-N, and over the cloverleaf on I-80)
I've never been on I-95 in PA, though I have elsewhere
I've never been on I-86 IN Pennsylvania, though I've been on stretches in NY.
I've been on what is now I-476 between exit 151 & the northern terminus... but the Northeast ext. was still PA 9 at the time.
... almost forgot I-176. Never been on that one either.
I have every interstate in FL except for one: Interstate 195 in Miami. And what is really sad is it is only 7 miles longer for me to go to Dallas, TX than it would be for me to go to Miami to clinch it!!
Florida is goddamn huge! From Pensacola to Key West is almost as long as across Texas.
The only state where I've clinched all the miles is Delaware.
In the three states I've lived in the most, I have over 80% of the mileage.
In my home state of PA, I've clinched:
I-70, I-76, I-78, I-80, I-81, I-83, I-84
I-176, I-376 (until they sign it past I-79!), I-476, I-279, I-180, I-283
Partial
I-276 (Missing section from US 13 to Delaware river)
I-79 (only have from US 422 to US 22/30/I-376 and north of I-90)
I-380 (surprisingly only the part concurrent with I-84)
I-86 (from only PA exit to NY state line)
I-90 (just under half the miles)
I-95 (from DE line to near turnpike)
I-99 (from US-22 to old north end and from Port Matilda to I-80, but before it was signed as such)
Missing:
I-676, I-579
Ohio (lived there 10 years)
Clinched:
I-71, I-76, I-80
I-270, I-470, I-271, I-471, I-277, I-280, I-480, I-680, I-490
Partial:
I-70 (IN state line to I-75 and Columbus to WV line)
I-670 (between OH 315 and I-71)
I-74 (Just 2 miles in Cincy)
I-75 (Cincy area, I-70 to north of Findlay, and I-280 Jct. to MI line)
I-275 (from just west of I-75 east to KY bridge)
I-77 (from New Philadelphia north)
I-90 (all except connector from Turnpike to merge with OH 2)
Missing:
I-475, I-675
TN (almost 14 years)
Clinched:
I-24, I-65, I-81
I-440, I-640, I-275
Partial:
Hidden I-124
I-26 (from US 321 south)
I-40 (all except I-40 from Mississippi River bridge to I-240 Jct.)
I-75 (from I-40 W of Knoxville to KY line and from Cleveland TN exit south)
Missing:
I-140, I-240, I-55, I-155
The interstates I have yet to travel on in any form in California are I-215, I-780, I-40 (though I've been on I-40 in Tennessee and Arizona) and I-805 (as well as future I-905).
I've clinched I-280, I-5 (but the portion north of Red Bluff, I went on when I was 1 year old), I-80, I-680, I-880, I-580, I-980, I-380, I-205 and unsigned I-305.
Think I've been on all of I-405, and am just a couple of miles left to clinch I-505.
Bringing this one up from the dead...I clinched I-459 over the 4th of July while in Birmingham. Now all I need to clinch Alabama is I-59 from the Argo exit northward, the 3di's in Huntsville, Gadsden and Mobile and I-22 when it officially comes into existence. I may clinch 565 if I go to Kentucky and visit my cousin in September (I'm going through Alabama rather than through Memphis).
And to update, I've finally made it onto I-780 (about a month and a half ago or so), so that leaves me with 215, 40 (in California), 805 and future 905 left to traverse on for the first time.
Oops, I forgot I've been on 215 (in February), so that's only three Interstates I have not been on. :p
Let's see. I live in Maryland.....

I-795: check
I-895: it was a long time ago, but it probably hasn't changed, so check.
I-97: check
I've lived in multiple states and only in one have I made it on all of the interstates at least once, but haven't clinched all of them due to some running at the wrong angle and little need to use some routes other than for clinching.
For the other states, there's always been one short little 3di in some distant part of the state that has prevented having been onto all of the interstates within the state.
Current state of residence (MD):
I-68: clinched
I-70: yes (missing west of I-68 and a short stretch east of Frederick)
I-270: clinched (including spur)

Oregon-wise, I've driven on at least some portion of I-5, I-84 I-105, and I-405 . . . leaving I-205 and I-82, albeit I've driven a fair bit of the Washington part of the latter. Haven't clinched any of them yet, but I've done 104 miles of I-84 (Portland to Biggs), and about 90 miles of I-5 (Eugene to I-84 in Portland, excluding the 11 miles between Aurora/Donald and Tualatin).
-Alex (Tarkus)
I have been on all of Wisconsin's interstates and clinched all but two in the state. Those being 43 and 90. I've got the last bit of 43 in my sights next month, but I dunno when I'll need to go to the La Crosse area and can pick up the rest of 90.

No it's sad for me to live in VA and say that I've never been on I-81(even though that will change in October) or I-77 :-(
What's happening to I-81 in Virginia?
As for me, I've
driven, at one time or another, on every Interstate in Utah:
I-15, Everything south of UT-30 Junction and north of Exit 2 (UT-7)
I-70, All
I-80, from I-15 to SLC Airport Exit
I-84, Concurrent section with I-15
I-215, South I-15 Jct. to Legacy Parkway Jct.
Now, as far as riding, here is what the Utah list looks like:
I-15, All
I-70, All
I-80, Same as driving
I-84, I-15 Jct. East to Mountain Green
I-215, Same
Current home state of Washington: I've clinched all of them. The last one was I-182 last summer.
Previous home state of New Jersey: I don't think I've ever been on I-278, at least not the NJ portion. I've clinched all the other ones except for I-80 between 287 and Paterson, and I-78 between 287 and NJ 24.

Nothing at the moment I just hadn't been on it before last October.
Clinched all of CO.
I spoke to someone who used to live and work in a location where his daily commute involved every interstate in Colorado. He lived in the Thornton area and worked near I-225 and Parker Road, so he commuted down I-25 to I-76, I-76 to I-270, I-270 to I-70, I-70 to I-225, and I-225 to Parker Road. These days, that commute is impossible, since I-270 is now extended to I-25 and the ramp from SB I-25 to EB I-270 has been closed.

I am most impressed with CA and NM. That's a lot of boring travel! (I could have clinched more interstates in MS, AL, etc. when I did my southern trip, but opted for a range of roads and only went after the 3di's.)
NM's interstate mileage is quite interesting! California does have a few useless interstates, like 980 and 710, but New Mexico stayed away from the trend of building three-digit commuter routes. All their roads actually go somewhere... and no, the Port of Long Beach doesn't much count as a somewhere especially if you can't be bothered to build the freeway in entirety.
I've clinched all the interstates in my home state of Kentucky, and also in my grandfather Elkins' native state of West Virginia.
In Washington, I'm missing a rather large stretch of I-82 between the Tri-Cities and Ellensburg. I don't think I've been on I-705 in Tacoma.
In California, I'm missing most of I-605, some of I-805, a sliver of I-105, all of I-215, all of I-210, parts of I-710, much of I-15 between Riverside and Barstow, all of I-40, most of I-405, I-10 east of Palm Springs, and I-8 east of El Cajon.
Otherwise, I've been on the entire stretch of I-5 (except for the border crossing at San Ysidero). I've also been on the entire stretch of I-80 in California.
Easy question - yup
and Minnesota's
Yep every interstate even the "secret" 595 which I hate so much for making me late everyday.
Looks like I'm missing just a few stretches of some interstates in NJ. I'm missing 676 through Camden but I have 676/76 to 295. I'm almost 100% sure I have all of 295 and 195. I'm missing the very end of 278 from the turnpike intersection to US 1. And I'm missing 78 between the NWK Airport interchange and the Turnpike. And I think that's it.
In GA, I've clinched every Interstate except for I-185, 516 and 520. In FL, everything except far-west I-10 from Crestview West. Of course, I've done I-95 in Deleware, Maine and Rhode Island. In MA I've hit all of both I-93 and 95. In VT, all of I-89, 91 and 93. In NH, all of I-89 and 93. In NY, all of I-87 and 90. Starting to get off topic, sorry..
In Oregon, yep.
California, all of I-5, 10, 105, 110, 205, 210 (not the CA 210 portion), 380, 505, 710 (incl. CA 710), 980.
Portions of I-215, 280, 405, 580, 605, 680.
I've clinched all of the interstates in NC except the newest section of I 485 from NC 16 to I 77 and I 26 north of Mars Hill. This includes all of the fragments (including those signed Future) of I 73 and I 74.
Even though I've lived in AZ for 24 years, I have never driven on I-19 :-o
This will soon change.

Sounds like you recently got I-195.
The "ME Turnpike tolled portion" remark throws me off a bit...
Do you fear you missed a segment between York and Portland? If not, it's redundant with the "former I-495" description.
I've clinched all of CT's interstate mileage. But "my state" is ME, and as I don't have My Papers together, I'm still missing that last segment of I-95 before the Canadian border.
Otherwise, traveled sombunall of every interstate in RI, NH, VT & CT. Still missing 195 & 295 in MA.
I-129 is too far north, and holding me back from also making that claim in NE. And apparently I didn't have my shit together enough to clinch 480 or 680 while in Omaha.

I think he means SB I-25 to EB I-76, because SB I-25 to EB I-270 is definitely open- I drive that ramp at least once a month
I have been on them all, but I've clinched all of them except one.
I'm not even close to being on all interstates in my home state of Pennsylvania. In fact, I have never been west of Gettysburg. However, I have clinched all the interstates in Delaware, Rhode Island, and District of Columbia but have been on all the interstates in Massachusetts and New Hampshire.

I'll bite...
I've clinched every mile of Interstate in 6 states (AL, DE, HI, MD, MS, VT) plus the District of Columbia.
I've been on (but not clinched) every Interstate in 12 states (AR, KY, LA, ME, MN, NH, PA, SC, TN, VA, WV, WI).
And there are 10 other states (CT, IN, IA, NJ, NM, NC, ND, RI, SD, UT) where there's only one Interstate I haven't been on.
I just clinched I-90 in New York today; I drove the remaining 50 or so miles that I had not travelled today (between I-481 in Syracuse and 5/8/12 in Utica, along with a short section of the free section between the Thruway and I-787) while on a short day trip to Albany. So far, it's the only 2di in NY I've clinched.
I've also clinched 290, 490, and 590 (along with 587 and 790, but those aren't real Interstates), and been on a good chunk of 81, 86, 87, 190, 390, 481, and 787, along with a very small section of 287. Was gonna clinch 890 today (since it was on the way back from Albany), but I was in a hurry and didn't feel up to a side trip through Schenectady.
Still got a long ways to go before I'm close to getting them all...
In Indiana, I have driven on all of the Interstates:
64 - clinched (entire length of 64, except the new MO part just opened)
65 - clinched in the state
69 - all but the part north of the Indiana Toll Road and the 2 miles just opened near Evansville
70 - clinched in the state
74 - all but the part west of Crawfordsville, was a passenger on that part
80 - all but the part east of I-69, was a passenger for that part
90 - all but the part east of I-69, was a passenger for that part
94 - clinched
164 - clinched
265 - clinched
465 - clinched
469 - clinched
865 - clinched
Other freeways in Indiana:
US-20 US-31 Elkhart Mishawaka South Bemd Niles bypass - clinched
Airport Expressway (Indianapolis) - clinched
A two-mile freeway on IN-37 (Bloomington -future I-69) -clinched
US-50 US-41 Vincennes bypass - clinched, even to Lawrenceville IL
IN 265 past the end of I-265 - clinched
Have not been on IN-912
Have not been on the tiny loop of I-275 in Indiana (Cincinnati OH bypass)
I think the only Interstate I have not been on is I-670 in Columbus (don't get there too often), but other than that, been on them all.
I've been all over the country(44 states), but I haven't clinched all of the interstate mileage in any state, not even my home state of Nebraska where I lack only I-129. I only have very short portions of a couple of interstates in Missouri and Arkansas that I haven't been on.
I have been on all of the interstates in Alabama except one: I-759. I have not been on I-20/59 between the Mississippi line and I-359 or on I-85 between Montgomery and Valley or I-10 from the Mississippi line to I-65.

I-759 is one of the two interstates in AL that I have clinched. I-565 is the other.
I've still have yet to travel I-220 in Shreveport/Bossier City.

It's been several years since I've been on I-30. I need to go again, especially with the impending changeover to Clearview signage. There are a couple "oddball" BGS's I want photos of, like the "squished" AR 111.
I've clinched every interstate in my state, Delaware. I've been on every interstate in Maryland, Nevada (if you don't count unsigned 580), South Dakota, Utah, and Wyoming. There are several other states where I've been on every 2di.
I've clinched every mile of interstate in NJ (last bit was the stub end of 278), and will soon finish DE.
I've been on every interstate in my original home state of RI, but I haven't yet clinched 295...!
I have driven on all of the interstates in Pennsylvania except I-90, I-86 and the current remnant of I-279. I've clinched many of them: I-70, I-83, I-283, I-95, I-81, I-676, I-476, I-76, I-176, I-276, I-376 (prior to extension), I-78, I-380
I lived in Maryland at one point in my life, and I have clinched all interstate mileage in Maryland except I-68 west of Cumberland. (Thanks to the Baltimore meet in April, I finally got I-370!)

I've clinched all interstate mileage in Delaware, Connecticut, and Rhode Island.
Come to think of it, I believe I have Delaware clinched as well.
I have clinched all Interstate miles in most of the upper Midwest, including Illinois (my home state) Indiana, Michigan, Wisconsin, Iowa, Missouri, Nebraska, Kentucky, Kansas, as well as many other states like Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, Wyoming, Utah, North & South Dakota, and most of New England.
AS for US routes, I have also clinched most of the above states.
In Illinois and Wisconsin and the UP of Michigan I have clinched all the State Routes as well.
I'm very close to clinching Delaware, Connecticut, Virginia, and Rhode Island (72%, 86%, 71%, and 62% respectively). Don't anticipate clinching any of these any time soon though, as Delaware's missing segments are 95 and 495 toward Philly, not somewhere I go often, Connecticut's are I-395, again not a route I use often, Virginia's missing segments are way out west, and I hardly ever go out there, and Rhode Island's are all 3dis, and I hardly ever even pass through RI.
I've clinched all of Wyoming now, giving me Washington and Wyoming from behind the wheel and New Hampshire if my excursions as a passenger count.
If all goes right on Wednesday/Thursday, I'm going to finish up Nebraska too (I have the 2dis done, but I haven't done any of the 3dis (I did do 129 as a passenger once, but that's it), but I think I'm going to change that this week)
In Texas in my lifetime, I have driven:
I-10 -- from Fort Stockton to the Louisiana border (both ways)
I-20 -- from Weatherford to Mesquite (both ways)
I-27 -- entire length (both ways)
I-30 -- from Weatherford to Garland (both ways)
I-35 -- entire length (both ways, including both splits through Dallas-Fort Worth)
I-37 -- entire length (both ways) I grew up being around I-37.
I-45 -- entire length (both ways)
I-410 -- entire circle (both ways)
I-610 -- entire circle (both ways)
I-635 -- entire length (both ways)
I-810 -- entire circle (both ways)
Although I haven't actually driven the I-20 stretch from its origin to Weatherford, I did cross it's corridor at several points in Abilene, Odessa, Midland, and Monahans. It's really hard to cover every mile in Texas.
I have been on all of Michigan's Interstates, and clinched all of the 3dIs except the easternmost piece of I-696. For 2dIs, I am missing a piece of I-75 south of Detroit, I-69 east of Flint, I-94 between Marshall and Jackson, Jackson and Ann Arbor, Detroit and Port Huron. I'll need to get a passport (or other similar ID) though to finish I-69 and I-94 because I'll need to enter Canada in the process.
My interstate clinch/travel update (any interstate I've been on including passenger miles, not simply driven on) in the Golden State:
I-80 (both directions)
I-280 (both directions)
I-380 (both directions)
I-580 (both directions)
I-680 (both directions)
I-780 (eastbound)
I-880 (I think I've clinched northbound and am only missing a few miles southbound between 101 and 280)
I-980 (both directions)
I-238 (both directions I think)
I-5 (from Oregon border to I-8 in both directions, but I haven't been north of Red Bluff on that freeway since I was 1 year old; south of I-8, I have seen much of the freeway via riding the San Diego Trolley to San Ysidro, but never have traveled on it)
I-105 (eastbound from I-110 to I-605)
I-205 (westbound)
unsigned I-305 (both directions)
I-405 (both directions I think)
I-505 (from Route 16 south to I-80 southbound, from I-80 north to Midway Road northbound)
I-605 (northbound from 405 to Katella Avenue and from 105 to 60)
I-10 (from Route 1 to I-405 eastbound, and from US 101 to Route 39 in both directions)
I-110 (from Sepulveda Boulevard to US 101 in both directions, though north of I-10, Interstate signage only exists southbound)
I-210 (from I-5 to Route 118 westbound, and from Route 134 to Route 39 eastbound)
I-710 (from Route 47 to I-5 northbound, and from Route 91 to I-405 southbound)
I-15 (from I-215 to US 395 northbound and partially southbound, from Route 18 to Nevada state line northbound and from Nevada state line to Route 58 southbound)
I-215 (from Route 60 to La Cadena Drive northbound, and from Route 66 to I-15 northbound)
still to travel on:
I-805
future I-905
I-40 (I have been on I-40 in Arizona and in Tennessee, but not California)
I've been on every mile of I-40, I-8 and I-17, every km of I-19 and a significant portion of I-10 here in Arizona (have not gone east past Tucson, I-10 wise).
I did have all of Ohio clinched...Until they relocated I-280 over the new Maumee River crossing in Toledo... :verymad:
Every mile of Interstate in Pennsylvania? Not even close. Every Interstate? All except 86 and 579. And I was so close to 86 on a road trip in June I should have done it just for the heck of it. I've even been on 495. If anyone doesn't believe there's a 495 in Pennsylvania, drive from Philadelphia to Wilmington some time and take careful note of where the signage is.

Heck, I've clinched every Interstate in Delaware.... :-)
For the discussion involving Interstate 495's mileage, see the thread (https://www.aaroads.com/forum/index.php?topic=3851.0) split from this topic.
I've got most of WI. I haven't done the entire length of I-43 south of Milwaukee, or I-94 south of Milwaukee. Haven't done the 3di routes in Milwaukee, either.
MN- I've done all of I-90 and I-94, I-35 from just south of the Cities to the end in Duluth, and all the 3di routes in the state. I haven't done I-35 between the Twin Cities and the IA border.
I might get those done this year, yet.
I have not driven any of the 6.5 miles of I-516, and I have not driven approximately 6 miles of I-520.
Otherwise, I have driven the remainder of Georgia's approximate 1244 miles of interstate.
I have also been on all the interstates in Ohio, except for I-470 and also I-490. I also have traveled the entire distance of I-84 (east). I also have been on all the interstates in Maine except for I-195. I also apologize for the overuse of the word "also."
In Michigan:
I-375 (entire lenght southbound)
I-75 (only between exits 36 and 77 northbound, 77 and 51C southbound and 49A to 43 southbound)
As for business routes, I have clinched all of BS I-375.
We don't have very many in Alabama, and most of them come through Birmingham, but I think I have been on them all (including the little spurs in Tuscaloosa and Gadsden) - although my memory of I-10 is very fuzzy as I don't get down to Mobile very often.
I clearly have all interstate mileage clinched in KY, and "technically" have all interstate mileage clinched in TN. Does anybody think I need to re-clinch I-26 because they changed the rest of I-181 over to I-26? I think the re-signing took place last year, and I haven't been to the Tri-Cities area in probably 2 or 3 years.
The next closest state that I nearly have clinched is WV. All I lack there is on I-470 in Wheeling from the OH river bridge to the US 250/WV 2 exit. I will probably be middle-aged before I get back up there again at this rate. Next is AL, where I lack some of I-20 in eastern AL, some of I-85 in eastern AL, some of I-459 SW of Birmingham, all of I-165, and the newest portions of Corridor X/I-22 that have opened in the past 3 years. Then next is SC, and I may have that state clinched in the next year or so since I'm moving there in about a week now.

I tend to agree too, which is why I say technically, but I wonder if the clinched highways website would agree with me...
Either way, I *may* be able to swing up that way as soon as next week.
I consider that if I drove on the pavement on the alignment that is currently signed, I drove on the road. Regardless what it was at the time I drove it. Now, if they reroute it entirely off that right-of-way, I don't consider it.
I've never been on I-205 and I-505.

Completely agreed. My take is that as long as it is in the same footprint, it counts. So if a freeway was renumbered, say you took all of US 78 in MS and it becomes I-22, you have I-22 equally clinched. With reconstructions and rebuilds, if it is within the same footprint, it still counts. I-30 was redone in Fort Worth like this, so if you had it on the old roadway, you still have it on the new one, because it is the same overall footprint. Interstate 195 in Providence does not fall within this frame of thought, because the footprint shifted southward onto a new alignment. In that instance, I lost my clinch of the route.
My view is that if you were on the road as it existed at the time you drove it, you clinched it and that cannot be revoked, unless the road is extended to new endpoints.
For instance, I had US 68 clinched in Kentucky and it was rerouted onto a new route around Bowling Green a few years ago. i don't consider that I lost that clinch because I drove it as it existed at the time. Similarly, US 35 in West Virginia. I didn't consider myself having lost that clinch when it was moved to its new alignment to terminate at I-64.
However, if Kentucky decides to extend US 119 from its current terminus at US 25E near Pineville across existing KY 92 to end at US 25W or I-75 at Williamsburg, I will lose my clinch of that route and will need to go drive that portion of 92 that I haven't already been on to re-clinch. But if it gets re-routed into Tennessee and down TN 63 to end at US 25W, I won't need to do any new driving because I've already driven that route.

For roads I drove on before they became Interstates, I also would not count as "clinched" segments that were not at least freeway-grade, such as Future I-295 around the east side of Jacksonville FL (now all freeway-grade, but about three miles weren't last I was there).
I agree on counting as "de-clinched" highway segments significantly realigned (well out of the old right-of-way) after I drove them, like I-195 in Providence until I re-clinched it in August.

Agreed, for me it's sections of US 15 north of Williamsport that have been improved since I last drove on it.
I've definitely clinched I-22.
I also consider my clinch of I-10 to be complete as of January, 2005 when there was an ice storm in New Orleans (!) and the freeway was closed, with all traffic being routed down US-61. That was the alignment du jour, and I took it.
I have since then done the freeway.

I'd apply different rules for Interstates, which are normally required to be freeway-grade to get their designations, than for other types of highways. I would just apply a "significant realignment" rule for the non-Interstates. I'm not sure how that applies to US 15 north of Williamsport, some of which was being improved last time I was up there.
My personal policy is that renumberings do not require reclinching (I've clinched part of US 30 BUS in Exton, PA, and it was part of regular old 30 at the time), reconstructions do not require reclinching (could you imagine keeping track of that?), but outright reroutings do (I-195 Providence).
The only real potential policy abuse I have to my name currently is that I claim to have clinched I-93 between the southern MA 3 junction and Storrow Drive despite the fact that that was in 2002 and it was still the old Central Artery.
I mean, hey, the road moved vertically, but not horizontally! Same footprint, same route, it counts! :spin:
I consider a route clinched if I've driven one alignment or another of it. For example, I've clinched US-6, and part of it is the pre-1947 alignment through Brooklyn, Iowa. The main road now bypasses the town a few miles to the south.
Being a former New Yorker, I have been on every Interstate except the new I-86. Now a Floridian for 13 years, the only Interstates I have not been on any part of are Interstates 10 or 110.
in Illinois, I been on every interstate outside of Chicagoland with the exceptions of 172 and 180. The only interstates I clinched in the state is 57, 64, 39, 270, 255, and 155.
In Chicagoland, I only been on parts of Tri State (from 55 to Niles) and Reagan (from Tri State to 39), and portions of Stevenson (west of Tri State), I-57, and the Dan Ryan from 57 to Congress. I lived in Illinois my entire life and only been to Chicagoland twice.
Update: In Michigan, I have also been on I-75 in both directions between exit 28 and the state line and I-94 in both directions between exits 200 and 183.
In Ohio, I have been on I-75 between the state line and exit 208 in both directions and on I-280 in both directions between I-75 and exit 2.
I've been on all interstates in Indiana except for the Indiana Toll Road from SR 9 to SR 49 and I-94 from US 20 to the Michigan line.
Heh, I guess I haven't quite clinched the interstate mileage yet, but I have been on every interstate in Arizona
I've been on every interstate in the contiguous West Coast states except for I-780, (future) I-905, I-980 and I-40. I have yet to clinch I-90 from its junction at I-405 to Spokane, I-84 from the US-395 junction to Ontario, I-82 from Tri-Cities to I-90, and I-80 from Sacramento to Reno. The Foothill Fwy (I-210) I'll have to re-clinch once it's completed.
I've been on every Interstate in Illinois, Washington State and Southern California. Needless to say, I haven't been on any of the I-x80s in Northern California, although I did come close a few times, most notably while navigating US 101 through San Francisco. And I haven't been on I-305 either. I'll be sure to check out the new I-905 the next time I'm in Southern California.

Not only have I been on every mile of interstate in the state of Wisconsin, I have been on every mile of each USH, and am close to clinching every Wisconsin state highway. In Florida (currently home):
Clinched: I-10, I-110, I-275 & I-295 (just after the Butler Blvd interchange completion).
Partial: I-4 (from Lake Mary to Tampa [I need to clinch this one on a spare weekend]), I-75 (from FL/GA border to Bradenton), I-95 (from FL/GA border to Fort Pierce).
Never: I-175, I-195, I-375, I-595
In Maryland: I-495
In Pennsylvania: I-295, I-276, I-476
In New Jersey: I-295
I've clinched I-95 in DE, MD, VA, NC, SC and GA.
I've clinched all interstate mileage in Oklahoma, Wyoming, Rhode Island, Nebraska, New Mexico, Arkansas, Kansas, New Hampshire, and Delaware. I've clinched all interstate mileage in Texas except for I-110 from the last U.S. exit to Mexico. All I lack in Missouri is I-72, and all I lack in Maine is hidden I-495. Overall, I've driven 66.10% of the interstate system.

I also consider my clinch of I-10 to be complete as of January, 2005 when there was an ice storm in New Orleans (!) and the freeway was closed, with all traffic being routed down US-61. That was the alignment du jour, and I took it.
I have since then done the freeway.
Agreed, and in my case, I got double clinching on several routes due to detours: I-535 in Duluth/Superiour, as the bridge was closed and I was forced to use US 2 (with the intention of using I-535), I-75 in Skaginaw when it was rerouted over I-675 for construction, I-10 in Lake Charles over I-210 for the same reason, and I-10 in Houston over the frontage roads... again to construction. All in the same trip, too :pan:
I didn't consider I-475 in Flint clinched even though it was my intended route, though, as I-69 and I-75 presented a viable alternate route before the detour notices came up.
Though I haven't updated my clinched file, I have to break my 1999 clinch of US 93 over Hoover Dam because of the realignment. At least I do get to claim NV 193.
I dunno, I'm only willing to say "good enough" on detours due to road closure if it's really brief. If the detour is long enough that it means missing an entire segment between two waypoints, I don't think that segment should be considered clinched.
This of course means that any and all detours off of a freeway mean considering something skipped unless it's off and back on at the same interchange.
I don't consider a route un-clinched because there's suddenly a new alignment. My clinching of US-6 includes several alignments that were built in the 50s, and some that haven't been US-6 since the 30s.
In Oregon we have I-5, I-84, I-82 and the 3-digit Interstates (105, 205, 405) and I have been on every single inch of them over the years. The road I am most happy to have clinched is all of US 101 from Olympia to the 4-level in LA. It is the greatest drive we have in the West IMO.
Rick
I generally agree with Duke, except for frontage roads. If I have to drive a frontage road, even purposefully a few exits before getting back on, I would consider it clinched. Same reason why I would consider US281 and US77 clinched in Texas when they freewaytize it. I drove the frontage roads that are part of the existing ROW.

If my travels included an old decommissioned routing but not what was signed at that time, I'd not say I clinched it.
OTOH, I'll still say I clinched US30 in Ohio -- `cuz I did. Where it was at the time.
But I don't have all of the present alignment marked on my cmap. (http://cmap.m-plex.com/stat/region.php?u=yakra&c=usa&rg=oh&du=mi&sort=ra)
I'll make an exception for an extension (i.e. the Williams tunnel on I-90 in Boston) but when it's just a re-routing between points A and B then I'll take the old alignment.
drastic re-routing cases to be treated on an individual basis, like US-70 to El Paso vs US-70 to Los Angeles.

I generally agree with Duke, except for frontage roads. If I have to drive a frontage road, even purposefully a few exits before getting back on, I would consider it clinched.
As would I, but with the stipulation that the roads must stay on the same ROW the whole time and the freeway must be visible the whole time. If there is, for example, a soundwall between the freeway and the frontage road, it prevents me from having "seen" that part of the freeway, so I couldn't count it. (though, I don't think I currently have any examples where this matters, personally)
Similarly, if I made a turn onto or off of a road before the very end, but from a point close enough where the end is visible, the clinch is valid.
As for realignments... it really has to be taken case by case. Certainly, if the old alignment is still a numbered highway, I would consider that clinched instead of the new alignment. But if the old alignment is abandoned or removed from the state highway system, then I might be willing to consider the realigned route clinched, so long as it isn't too serious a realignment.

That was embarrassing...and I grew up there!
Should have been Delaware: I-295
In IL: I-24 entire length, I-39 from IL 17 to IL/WI Line, I-55 entire length, I-57 entire length, I-64 only the cosigned part with I-57, I-70 from IL/MO Line to I-57 North at Effingham, I-72 entire length, I-74 entire length, I-80 entire length, I-88 entire length, I-90 entire length and I-94 entire length.
IL 3dis: all of the following 190, 290, 294, 180, 280, 155, 355, 270, 474.
I-255 from IL/MO Line to I-55/70.
None of I-172.
The only interstates I have not been on are I-85 and I-95 among major interstates and I-126, I-185, I-526 and I-585 in addition to the aforementioned.
I have clinched I-520 (the Palmetto Parkway) in North Augusta and I-385 in the Upstate.
I have driven the entire length of I-4, I-10, I-75, and I-95, as well as I-195, I-395, I-595, I-295, I-175, and I-375 in Florida. The only one I haven't driven on at all is I-110 in Pensacola...I've only been in the area once, and that was driving through it via I-10 in a rainstorm.
I'd have to think for a while about every other state I've visited, but I don't think I clinched too many of them. I-95 in Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, and Virginia spring to mind. Been on most of I-75 in Georgia, but likely lots of bits and pieces of interstates in most other states I've been to.

Short answer: no.
Longer answer: I haven't been on I-24 or 155. 64, 70, 72, and 74 I've been on only because they multiplex with I-55, although I've been on other parts on 74 in the Quad Cities and Peoria. I've been on them all in Chicagoland, including the very short I-190. I've been on the entire length of I-55. I did take I-39 from Normal to US 6, but it was after dark and became stormy while I was driving. It was scary when tornado warnings come through on the radio and I have no idea what county I'm in, so I had to wait it out parked in an underpass.
Clinched: All of CT, RI, MA, VT (re-clinched 95% since April), NH
Close Calls: ME (everything except I-395 and the last 5 miles of I-95 in Houlton)
Others: NY: All of I-84 and I-87, I-90 from Albany to Buffalo, I-95
NJ: All of the turnpike, I-78, I-80
I have also come close to clinching all of I-95 on the East Coast, with these exceptions:
south of I-595 between Ft Lauderdale and Miami
between I-295 and I-295 in the Richmond-Petersburg area
north of Wilmington DE to Trenton NJ
between US 1 in Houlton and the US/Canada border (some 5 miles or so)
I'm from Delaware...so yes, that's about as easy as it gets (I-95, I-295, I-495). I'll bet I've taken every EXIT in Delaware as well (there aren't that many).
I currently live in Virginia, and I actually have been on almost every interstate in VA as well (I-64, I-264, I-464, I-664, I-66, I-77 although only the multiplexed part with I-81, I-81, I-581, I-95, I-195, I-295, I-395, I-495).
Haven't been on I-381 in Bristol or the non-multiplexed part of I-77.
Indiana:
Clinched: 65, 69 (except for new part), 70, 74, 80, 90, 94, 265, 275, 465, 865
Not clinched: 64
Never been on any part: 164, 469
In Virginia, I've clinched I-66, I-81, I-85, I-95, I-295, I-395, I-495, I-264 (the part east of I-64 wasn't an Interstate at the time, but I do not feel the need to re-drive it since I've been on the full road that is now I-264), I-664, and I-581.
Driven the portion of I-77 from I-81 south to the state line as well as (obviously from the I-81 clinch) the wrong-way multiplex, but never the part north of I-81.
Driven all of I-64 (including the two multiplexes) except for the portion from Clifton Forge west to the state line.
Never driven on I-381 and doubt I will ever do so. Bristol is a long way from here, I haven't been down that far since 1997, and I don't expect to be down that way in the foreseeable future. Also never driven on I-464, I-564, or I-195. I imagine I'd be more likely to find a reason to drive on I-195 or I-464 than I-564 or I-381.
I've driven every Interstate in the District of Columbia many times, but that's not an accomplishment.
Other states:
All of Delaware's Interstates clinched years ago.
In Maryland I've driven on every Interstate except I-795, but I have yet to clinch I-83 (never used the portion inside I-695), I-97 (never used the portion southeast of the split with MD-3), and I-70 due solely to that tiny stub portion inside I-695.
In New Jersey I've driven on every Interstate except I-287 but have a ways to go in terms of clinching I-80 (also have small segments of I-280 and I-78 that remain undriven).
In Pennsylvania I've travelled (not necessarily driven) on every Interstate except for I-80, I-579, I-86, and I-99. But the only clinches I have are I-76, I-81, I-83, I-95, I-176, and I-276. I-476 would have been a clinch until they extended it up the Northeast Extension. Unlike the I-264 situation in Virginia noted above, I hadn't clinched the southern part of I-476 prior to the redesignation of the Northeast Extension, and I hadn't clinched the Northeast Extension prior to the redesignation either (still haven't), so I wouldn't count it.
QuoteAlso never driven on I-464, I-564, or I-195. I imagine I'd be more likely to find a reason to drive on I-195 or I-464 than I-564 or I-381.
Ah! I completely forgot about I-564. Yeah, I doubt I'll be driving on that one anytime soon unless I randomly end up working for the Navy...
If you ever get lost in downtown Richmond/Norfolk, you may just find yourself on I-195 or I-464. If you've taken Amtrak south through Richmond, you get a nice tour of pretty much the entirety of I-195.

Yeah, we've ridden the Auto Train through there a few times (most recently June 18 of this year), but in my mind that doesn't really count even though you can see the road quite clearly (on our most recent trip, we were on the correct side of the train for the southbound carriageway, too, appropriate since we were going south). I have driven on
VA-195, just not I-195. I'm kind of surprised I never found an excuse to go that way just for a change of pace when I used to travel the I-95 to I-85 route to and from Duke all the time in my law school years, but I think more often than not I just wanted to get the trip over with and so couldn't be bothered. The big thing now is that since I got married, my wife is a lot less enthusiastic about what she considers to be "pointless" detours, although she did think it was pretty cool to see the sign for the southern end of I-95 last month.
Texas - been on every interstate here. The only ones I haven't clinched are I-10 (missing the section of the Baytown Freeway between downtown and I-610 in Houston) and I-410 around San Antonio.
Hawaii: H-1, H-2, H-201, H-3
Washington: I-5, I-205, I-705, I-405, I-90
Oregon: I-5, I-205, I-405, I-105, I-84, I-82
California: I-5, I-405, I-80, I-10, I-405, I-110, I-710, I-105, I-605
Idaho: I-84, I-184
Nevada: I-80, I-580 (unsigned)
And parts of Interstate 84, 80, and 15 in Utah.
Illinois:
I-24 for its whole length in Illinois
I-39 between I-88 and US-24
I-55 between IL-59 and IL-47
I-57 from I-80 to I-24
I-64 (when it runs with I-57)
I-70 (when it runs with I-57)
I-72 for a brief moment in Champaign
I-74 for brief moments in Champaign and Peoria
I-80 east of Dalzell
I-88 east of I-39
I-90 west of O'Hare
I-94 (when it's on the Tri-State and when it's on the Borman)
I-180 (entire length)
I-190 (entire length)
I-290 east of I-294 and north of the Elgin O'Hare
I-294 (except between I-290 and I-90)
I-355 south of IL-64
I can safely say that my answer is an unfortunate and resounding "NO." Not in New York, and not in Florida either.
What's worse in the case of New York is that even though I've been on most of the Thruway at various points in my life, I've never been the one driving, and this was both before and after I was old enough to drive.
In Florida, I've never been on I-95 south of I-4, and never been on I-75 south of the Lee Roy Selmon Expressway, and never been on I-10 west of the most eastern interchange with US 90 in the Tallahassee area, and even then only on Greyhound buses.
On the other hand, even though I've never been on I-4 from start to finish, I've been on every segment of I-4 since being in Florida. So if this counts as clinching an interstate, I can say I've clinched at least one.
I suppose for a roadgeek, that makes me pretty pathetic compared to the rest of you.
As of yesterday, I now have all of I-172 and all of I-70, meaning I have been on all the interstates in Illinois, and only have I-64 left to clinch within Illinois.
I think I have been on portions of every Interstate in Ohio, except maybe some of the auxilliaries in Akron-Canton-Youngstown. I have certainly not clinched every Interstate in Ohio. I have nearly clinched I-70 in Ohio, only missing the last quarter-mile of it.
I posted in here about a year ago, and there have been a few changes:
