While most overpasses are generally bland looking, some areas take pride in their roadways and liven up the gray concrete with unique and often very aesthetically pleasing designs. I didn't see a thread for things like this, so here it is.
This is the one that inspired me to make this thread. This is a very well-done job for the Triangle Expressway overpass in Apex, NC:
https://www.google.com/maps/@35.6967459,-78.8723101,3a,68.5y,60.05h,87.54t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sta5SSQIe3buYwPxr4_CqFQ!2e0!7i13312!8i6656
I also remember a unique design somewhere in New York - that I believe was red-tinted like the one in Apex, but I can't remember where it exactly was...
Wisconsin has been doing that with their CSD program.
The I-41 project in the Green Bay and Oshkosh areas did this as part of the project. One example here: https://www.google.com/maps/@44.5232871,-88.0818539,3a,75y,17.31h,88.27t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sf6YnVKp3wKYyMWVp8axnDg!2e0!7i13312!8i6656
A few in the Madison area: https://www.google.com/maps/@43.0737233,-89.2800803,3a,75y,345.71h,87.51t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1spfUL1ROc4m1xBXF-dbYe7g!2e0!7i13312!8i6656
I-94/41 has them in their plans also.
The Northway has a few of these artistic overpasses/underpasses, especially in rural Adirondack areas.

I've always been impressed by these ones on the BQE:
(https://www.aaroads.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fnysroads.com%2Fimages%2Fgallery%2FNY%2Fi278%2F100_9480-s.JPG&hash=4c057b916fb9524cd7a2351020997bfb99e8cf60)
And there's this one on I-87 at NY 7 and NY 2 in Latham. On the west side is a NY 7 shield carved in the concrete on top, and of the right the same thing is done with NY 2. The center pillars do that with an I-87 shield on the side facing traffic and the Town of Colonie seal on the other.
(https://www.aaroads.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fnysroads.com%2Fimages%2Fgallery%2FNY%2Fi87%2F100_5394-s.JPG&hash=b5dd819246d0657438e7ce44cf6d7d8d36810d14)
These are the most beautiful overpasses I've ever seen.
The only one in NYS that has made me do a double-take is this one in Batavia: https://www.google.com/maps/@43.0136394,-78.3154692,3a,45.1y,349.04h,81.98t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1skFEx4wGpI3j8xnAlMkkJHQ!2e0!7i13312!8i6656
And more recently is this one on the Cattaraugus Reservation. I talked about it a few months ago when I went down to NC, but the GSV cars beat me to any kind of roadgeeky-picture taking I could've done (and I can't anyways because I have shitty cameras):

I think Utica's Arterial is supposed to look a little presentable, but who knows.
This kind of stuff is all over the Phoenix area. They like to put designs all over the freeways here, even in the gravel.

One thing I wish I saw more in NYS on the Thruway is decorative planting, but that's usually exclusive to Southern and Western/MW states.

Wow! Have those overpasses changed!
One from an old, crumbling bridge that will hopefully be replaced with the design kept.

Some more, courtesy of AsphaltPlanet. Images are obviously not mine.
First one is in Windsor, near the 401 extension that was partially finished last Spring (that road will connect to a new international bridge crossing to I-75 in Detroit). The markings are supposed to resemble Tallgrass Prairie, a endangered ecosystem found throughout North America.

Not a particularly unique design for the structure, but points for the street name:
I-64 west of St Louis. Most of the overpasses have these signs.

Originally, the Pennsylvania Turnpike had a standardized design for a single-span concrete overpass–sort of a pseudo-art deco style similar to the tunnels and very reflective of its era. They were still very common up until about a decade ago, but their numbers are rapidly dwindling as overpasses are rebuilt to accommodate widening.

I found one in San Antonio through GSV:

Then there's this contraption: https://www.google.com/maps/@29.5202584,-98.4855135,3a,23.2y,89.94h,90.94t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1saGfeMQds-CEl3gadUZVUUA!2e0!7i13312!8i6656
Boy, if NYS did any of this even with the 11M people in NYC, we would be in the hole. I don't know how TxDOT gets away with this and all of the other projects they do.
The 410 through San Antonio is amazing. It is among the most interesting freeways that I have ever driven. Texas does a good (and uniquely Texan) job with its freeway aesthetics.
South Bend has some notable overpasses. Here's one on the Indiana Toll Road at Olive Road: https://www.google.com/maps/@41.7302258,-86.3476863,3a,75y,90h,90t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1s5P-pwf6D1G4zGTEshtZNKw!2e0!7i13312!8i6656 (https://www.google.com/maps/@41.7302258,-86.3476863,3a,75y,90h,90t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1s5P-pwf6D1G4zGTEshtZNKw!2e0!7i13312!8i6656)
It's showing its age a bit. I don't know if the City of South Bend or the ITR concessionaire is responsible, but it could use revitalization.
The new construction on US 31 South also has some attractive overpasses. Unfortunately, GSV doesn't have them yet. I'll try to get some shots.

Texas is the people to go to when building freeways. Check out Dallas and Houston (still in rivalry for over 50+ years...hmm this is a bad idea).

That Conroy Road overpass is not that attractive as those spires on it are as ugly as a cactus. In fact some cactus is much prettier.
We have blind idiots working here in Orlando as we have matching traffic lights on nearby OBT that go well with the aesthetics of these.
I am sorry, but those spires, even though the official trademark of the Millenia Development that is within, are not needed on a bridge. The Orlando, is fine, and so are the fancy bridge piers, but those spires are a POS.
I like the southern and indiana style arched girder. it's differnet to me since i grew up with NJDOT standard girder.
Some of the new DDIs along I-85 northeast of Atlanta have some interesting designs:

Some of the overpasses have design (https://www.google.com/maps/@42.9589548,-87.9341952,3a,75y,358.85h,82.36t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sUV6chRomn8JvPKxyLbuX8w!2e0!7i13312!8i6656!6m1!1e1) elements (https://www.google.com/maps/@42.9159557,-87.9355852,3a,75y,3.32h,79.35t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1shKE8e8d5mFyi__cpO-UhSQ!2e0!7i13312!8i6656!6m1!1e1) unique (https://www.google.com/maps/@42.9400844,-87.9348001,3a,75y,347.7h,86.48t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sxNZPw3sOcoFD2t9l51w4IA!2e0!7i13312!8i6656!6m1!1e1) to their exits (https://www.google.com/maps/@42.9013933,-87.9360875,3a,75y,5.52h,82.92t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1shPnlJ9TWwJl-3Bf2TzRbJA!2e0!7i13312!8i6656!6m1!1e1) along I-94 in Milwaukee. A nice touch.

Not a particularly unique design for the structure, but points for the street name:
I-64 west of St Louis. Most of the overpasses have these signs.
On Lindburgh (US 61/67), the street goes under I-64/US 40. I like this one because the traffic signals are affixed to it.

I like the southern and indiana style arched girder. it's differnet to me since i grew up with NJDOT standard girder.
Alabama, Tennessee, Kentucky all use those arched girders too.
I believe I saw them on I-35 in OK, but I have to check to see if they are the exact same or another type of arched design.
Also, I would like to mention the consistency of the NJ Turnpike overpasses. Only the Garden State Parkway, NJ 133, and NJ 42 have something different due to them being added to the system after the initial freeway was built.
I do give NJDOT credit for making the original overpasses for I-195 over NJT built several years after the Turnpike was constructed, to match the other of the Turnpike overpasses in design.
I'm not going to link each individual bridge, but the Merritt Parkway has a series of unique art-deco style bridges for each of its 70 or so overpasses.
This Wiki link has links within to pics of each overpass

I just posted something along these lines on the Ontario Highways thread under Canada. I was on Highway 400 between Toronto and Barrie for the first time last weekend. I liked how old-school most of the overpasses look (so old-school and arched that trucks have to drive in the center lane), but also how the Ontario provincial logo was carved into them. No other 400-series freeway that I've traveled in Ontario has these (401 from Windsor to Toronto, 402, 403, 405, 406, QEW).

A classic design.

This one here on the Grand Central Parkway near La Guardia Airport where the flyover ramp above the stone arch bridge at Northern Boulevard is interesting how they made the piers sort of match the bridge beneath it using also stone on them. Usually on many NYC parkways they build a modern bridge adjacent to the the old stone arch crossings making things look a little strange, but here they thought something about that.
River St. Overpass near The Dalles, OR. (https://goo.gl/maps/puCMLuvYdd82)
23 Ave Overpass heading south on Calgary Trail (Hwy 2) in Edmonton. (https://goo.gl/maps/mVKjHjVhKGA2)
It's not on the overpass structure itself, but there is some nifty art on the wall of the 7th St. Ramp (CA-22) (https://goo.gl/maps/9ki6oaZMdF62) exiting off I-405 North.

Kind of looks like as if it belongs at an airport. Very cool nonetheless. [emoji5]

Cost/benefit analysis can sometimes fall in favor of artistic treatments, particularly in areas of wealth. If you're going to blow through someone's house with a freeway, you better make sure that whatever the hell replaces that house is at least decent to look at. A structurally-basic overpass is not exactly a sight for sore eyes.
I'd also have to think that they've found way to make the extra aesthetics not that much more expensive. I know it feels like I've seen more "fancier" overpasses being built lately than before (the PTC has been doing so for a while now).
