Title: Update on West Shoreway (OH 2/US 6/US 20) project in Cleveland
Post by: TheStranger on November 19, 2015, 03:21:26 PM
This is the section west of the Cuyahoga River (of which the portion from about West 45th Street eastward was once proposed as part of the planned original I-90 routing for the area) that leads to the Detroit-Shoreway neighborhood:

If I'm looking at this correctly, while the project is being presented as a "boulevard conversion", the route still remains a freeway (albeit with a lowered speed limit and a couple of ramp closures).

Does anyone think the roadway will function better or worse once the reconstruction and conversion is completed?

Probably the same.  The West Shoreway was THE main arterial for downtown commuters prior to the completion of I-90 between I-71 and West 117th.  Now it is only a major arterial for the cities & neighborhoods within a mile from the Lake Erie shoreline -- the rest use I-90.

In short, the conversion would be bad if I-90 was still not finished.  With the traffic counts it gets now, the new boulevard should be a wash...unless Cleveland does not synchronize the traffic signals well enough.

Drove this today, and so far what they have done on this project is completely cut out the median down to ground level, and the innermost lanes are closed

We shall e how long it take Cleveland to develop the open space becasue it sure took Milwaukee forever to do the same with the Park East. Despite we were promised the land would be a gold mine. If it wasn't for the new Bucks arena who knows if we ever would have seen anything built there.
