Title: Is it possible to get a user blocked?
Post by: I-39 on November 22, 2015, 08:03:45 PM
This user: dzlsabe has been posting things in the Midwest/Great Lakes forum constantly and has been trolling and being very rude and condescending. Can an administrator either block him or deal with him?

That's what the "report post" button is for.

Easiest way to deal with it...stop feeding the troll, and just reply to those that want to have meaningful conversations.  Taking a quick glance, it appears everyone enjoys having a debate with him, which in all fairness is much of the point of these discussions.

I'd never read any of his posts, but after seeing this, I looked them up. First thing I had to do was laugh as his insistence that Joliet is "downstate." If Joliet is downstate, then Champaign or Springfield are Kentucky and Cairo is Louisiana.

Then, after reading all his stuff, he strikes me as one of those who just want rural areas to dry up and blow away, as if they don't deserve or need highway projects, and spend 110 percent of available funds on the big city.

Is that more accurate?

Cairo is way farther south than Louisiana. Louisiana is just across the river on US 54.  :bigass:

Just hit the ignore button.  Believe me its not worth it to let him get to you.  Trust me I have too far many run ins with idiots far worse than him like the one troll who lives with mommy and has the nerve to correct my grammar and punctuation and obsess about it.

I found that out from another user who did that with this 9 year old space cadet.  He found the ignore button on his personal profile page and he says he does not see his posts anymore.

I think its got to do with the Edens Spur thread as one user on there seems to be rude and cruel and behaving real badly telling those who do not live in Illinois to not post about Illinois.  I would rather take Ethanman over this guy myself.  At least the 13 year old never got rough with anyone.

The threads that reflect most poorly on the users of any board are threads that go after a particular user.

There are moderators.  There are "report" buttons.  There are "ignore" lists.  Use them.  This just makes everyone involved look bad.

Arguing with a troll is like wrestling with a pig.  You both get muddy.  And then you realize the pig enjoys it.

Yes, I could not agree with you more on that one.  You argue back and you look bad as the trolls want you to do.  Plus devoting one thread to one user is not wise either.

Plus it makes us road enthusiasts look bad in front of others who do not like roads as well.

Is it even possible for a 9 year old to troll to the point he does? I feel like it's someone much older.

I think he's so old that doesn't know how to change his age. Or too stupid. Maybe the "9" was meant to represent his internet age?

When I was 9 I used to drive my parents nuts with roads and its problems.  Anything is possible, but after you mention it he could be just a wiseguy just saying he is 9.  I did not read all his posts, just the one's he got into the heated argument with geekgedi stood out most.

All of this happened within a day or two which means one thing for sure it did not take him long to get this far already.

I learned that one with one specific user here a while ago, however, I would try to argue with him for a long while though, but it only made me just as bad as he was.  Plus its wasted effort to just get yourself heated up anyway.

Technically, at the time he sent that, it was already Thanksgiving on Guam and the other Marianas (U.S. possessions), and for our servicemembers stationed in Japan.

What amazes me is the guy comes out of nowhere, shits all over the place, and then demands that we do things his way. All I can say is my time here has improved thanks to the ignore function. I can't see his nonsense.

The funniest part is the guy's lack of self-awareness. Most people would stop for a minute after seeing all the carnage here and think that maybe perhaps it wasn't a good idea to barge into someone's house and be an idiot. Not our buddy. He's convinced that the rest of the world is the problem.

Oh well, they all eventually get banned or bored.

I have to give dzlsabe some credit though. Within a month, he completely turned the midwest forums upside down and turned damn near all users against him. That's an impressive feat.

That said, I don't think banning or blocking him will prove anything. Give him time to come around. Worst case scenario, he ragequits because no one will interact with him.

You're actually young, and you're willing to learn. We know you'll grow up and figure out when to post and when to look stuff up and not post. @tribar-
First off, look closely. I didnt make the comment that I think you attribute to me. The UK guy did. Masterful faux news job though. The SAST spambots would be proud.

I doubt people hate me because of punctuation. HATERS gonna HATE. :pan: Some people arent happy unless they (and everyone around them) are miserable.

I expect SOME people to hate me. What is it ? 20? 30? Now if you could cite specific instances (replies) of why you hate me, bring it.

Just trying to get more concrete poured in just the right places...TOMORROW. While were young. Trying to turn this place into some semblance of London or NYC, instead of the "national whipping bitch" it is now.

If that makes me an "Antagonistic asshole know-it-all (with a) holier-than-thou attitude"? OK.
Probably not holier. And I only "know something" cuz I actually show up at the meetings, get the updates, read the Fing newspapers. Actually converse and listen to PEOPLE. Any attitude beats no attitude (apathy).

I think we all should use the ignore feature on here. It really works.  You can't see his posts as it will show up that you ignored him.  Only that he posts, and in blue "Show me the posts" to give you the option to override.

I cannot see his nonsense either, and it prevents me from wanting to interact with the dude as it seems all you do is say one thing to him (and just one little thing to him) and he responds to you with something.

Everyone should use the feature as its in your own profile and next to buddy list.  Open up the ignore button, and viola you block him out.

To me this guy is not worth the effort to argue with and like geek gedi said, his time improved and I can tell you the same for me.  This guy is going to lynch himself sooner or later without our help, so not interacting would be best for all of us here.

The carnage? Get over it. I put a small hole in your boys stuffy bubble and its like I ran over your puppy with a road roller.

The topic in question was DEAD from MAY to OCT, when I posed an obvious, innocent question.

On the other side of the coin, is there a way to block posters that grunt inane worthless three-word replies continually? If youre going to put your two-cents worth in, fine. If its really zero cents, stay in bed.

Done already.  The only problem is when someone else quotes any of his posts, it comes up still in purple on the other user's post.

I guess nothing is full proof.  However, at least I do not see his posts firsthand which is good enough.

I had this same issue with Randy Hersh on MTR. But the problem was compounded there because he'd make up a new name every time I plonked him, which had me continually killfiling his various identities. And then people would quote him and I'd have to see his rantings.

However, I heard a man named Blawp used to do that here.  Federal Route One was one of his aliases that he used on here, however no matter what name you use your m/o is still the same which would give that particular user away right away.  In that case ignoring someone will not work.  Lets just hope this guy gets tired and moves on.

The easiest way to ban someone is to cut off communication with them. Just stop fucking replying to quoting him. It's that god damn easy. You're failure to resist the urge to respond is your own issue.

Besides, what's the big deal with him having an opinion on a matter? We're all entitled to an opinion, no matter how off the wall it is.

I only stay away, not out of disrespect for the other user, but from being tempted to drop down to his level.    I cannot resist the urge to become a troll or to start snark when somebody like him says something.

What do you mean "down to his level"? That implies he's some sort of troll. He hasn't done anything troll-ish except express an opinion that is widely-derided. You can disagree with him all you want. Every time he responds, he comes up with reasons that can be understood and accepted, or refuted. That said, you can either A) respond to him, which is asking for a response back, or B) ignore his posts, and he'll move on. Like I said before, your failure to resist the urge to respond is your own wrong-doing. You need to be able to just move on. There are a million other users just like him. You can't just block/ban every one of them.

I have taken B and moved on.  You are the one bringing it up.  I only suggested to the others who are complaining about him that there is another option than constant complaining as many are unaware of the feature.

Also if there are a million other users like him, why does this guy have a thread about him?  I have never seen this before.  Anyway, you should direct your rant at everybody here in this thread.  They have more against this guy than I do.  I took the option to ignore as one other user on here did, and his advice is sound!  I moved on and do not even give this guy a second thought since.  YOU are the one bringing him up, not I!  Enough said and I am not going to argue with you anymore as this subject is OLD!

I took the "I cannot resist the urge to become a troll or to start snark" to mean "I cannot resist the urge to respond". If this is not what you meant, I apologize. I can see now (from reading previous posts) that you have "taken B".

Also, I don't think we were arguing. I never had any anger against you, or at least I didn't intend to make it look like I did.

No. Now that same-sex marriage is legal in all 50 states, I feel certain they've tied the knot and are now off the market.  :-D  :bigass:

Alright, this thread has gone on long enough.
