Since I'll have that day off, I might make it over for this. It brings back the
time my family and I attended an open house there (perhaps it was the 80th
anniversary as to why they held that one). I distinctly remember that they had a
signal hooked to a electromechanical controller, plus seeing the sign warehouse
and road salt sheds was fun as well. If this open house was anything like the
one in my childhood, I'm in for a real treat should I go. (I have greater
appreciation for historic photos than I did then, too.)
To help solidify your memory, they held the Open House to show off what the federal jobs grant paid for. The previous facility was a hodgepodge of old buildings, none of which were suited to maintain the trucks, store the equipment, or manufacture signs. The estimate given by the director, as I recall, was almost a million dollar savings to the road commission by being able to perform all the repairs on site with their own mechanics rather than to contract out the heavier work.
