I know this is a bit old, but worthy of mention due to the upcoming election:

If she gets elected, expect a return to the 55 mph national speed limit. Even if the GOP-controlled congress is against it, Hillary Clinton will probably rule it by decree, just as Obama has ruled by decree on some issues (re: gun control, gay marriage).
I can see her circumventing the Constitution in the name of the farce known as climate change. If so, you'll here this about a million times a day:

But all vehicles racing down to invade Mexico can go 70+, correct?
It's 9 years old. I don't trust anything like this that is more than a couple weeks old. Especially with how politicians like to change their minds with every new donation. :spin:
That being said, keep politics out of the forums. 55 isn't coming back simply because too many people are opposed to it.
Why is thread not locked
You tell me.
Reading certain comments in this thread have given me a massive headache.
Mark this one as being not safe for human consumption.
*shrugs*
This is how sensationalist shit gets started.
A) This was an offhand comment nine years ago
B)
Quote
"The 55 mile speed limit really does lower gas usage, and wherever it can be required and that people will accept it, we ought to do it," Clinton said.
The senator admitted that the move would be too unpopular to implement nationwide. "Well, there are just some parts of the country where that's just not going to happen," she said. "You know, where you've got miles of open, flat road."
In that offhand comment nine years ago, she makes it clear it wouldn't work nationwide.
C) She has never restated this
D) It will never happen under the current political charge, especially with oil prices where they are.
So... It's pretty irresponsible for you to say " expect a return to 55 if Hillary is elected" when there's only the smallest iota of evidence to suggest it could happen.
Shame on you. I say this as a liberal that hates Hillary enough that I'd consider voting for certain Republicans over her if she gets the nomination. I can't stand her, but not because of this ridiculous assertion.
It would not surprise me if an executive order returned us to 55mph NMSL to reduce the carbon footprint.
Was the 1970s change an executive order Or legislation ?
She stated it years ago, but she'll never get my vote ever because of it.
There really isn't much difference in emissions at 55 or 70. Standing at 0 is the worst for emissions.
I am still somewhat convinced that low speed limits are at least partially to blame for congestion. Most of the time when I feel like I'm in congestion on I-5 in Seattle, it's somebody hanging in the left lane going 60. That's the speed limit, sure, but if the limit was 70 or 75, perhaps it wouldn't seem as bad? Not really sure to be honest.

While, of course, completely ignoring the field of politics, let's just just have a look at some historical perspective:
"gun control" - a matter that the federal government has recently taken no action on
"gay marriage" - a matter that was the subject of a ruling by courts, entirely independent from elected politicians
This is the LEAST of the things about clunton that worry me. If Nixon had lied like she has...oh, wait. Never mind.
Obama had NOTHING to do with the Supreme Court ruling legalizing gay marriage.
This thread should be locked. So should someone's keyboard.

noelbotevera, if that post above was just for upping your post count here, please stop doing it. We appreciate constructive posts that add value to a thread, and that surely wasn't adding any value.

As for this thread, it's too far into the political side and not really about the speed limit. Thus, locked.
