Title: Is this an acceptable honorary sign?
Post by: eje657west on January 20, 2016, 01:04:24 AM
Hi there!

This is an honorary sign I created in Adobe Illustrator.

It is honoring a fake high school robotics team from a fake high school.  It is not a huge interstate sign, it is a simulated 24" square road sign that would be put on a post.  As you can see, I used the color green as a background.  I don't know if this is an acceptable color; the Illinois Department of Transportation(IDOT) uses the color green as a background for their school team honorary road signs.  I put the logo in a white square so the logo would stand out.

I was wondering if this sign is acceptable to Federal MUTCD 2009 Standards?  I know signs have to be reflective and font and text use has to be specific.  What do you think?

It looks fine to me, considering that sports teams/athletes get similar signs all the time (look east at your neighboring city for that).

There needs to be more spacing between the lines of text. Everything is too smushed as it stands.

Shouldn't you use the old logo for a 2015 win?   :-D

With more spacing, it would be much better compared to IDOT's version.

Here's one from IDOT. (https://www.google.com/maps/@42.1394307,-87.8263102,3a,20.4y,169.25h,84.19t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sMrQJb8FMHodA5wK4jKcfHg!2e0!7i13312!8i6656)

These could benefit from a wider font, but other than that I think they are solid. The thing that's somewhat interesting is how one has rounded edges and one has squared...
