Plans are underway by the Detroit International Bridge Company (i.e, Matty Maroun's company) for a 1750-ft. bascule bridge to Harsens Island (http://www.freep.com/story/news/local/michigan/wayne/2016/01/25/harsens-island-bridge/79304108/). While the public comment period for the permit application ends Thursday, the Clay Township supervisor (coincidentally the brother of the owner of Champions Auto Ferry) hopes to have it extended.
As might be expected, there is some opposition to the proposal (http://www.freep.com/story/news/local/michigan/2016/03/10/harsens-island-bridge-public-hearing/81576584/). The Department of Environmental Quality should have a decision on the permit by the end of April.

I trust their reporting
There is an update to this story (http://www.freep.com/story/news/local/michigan/2016/04/04/harsens-island-bridge-plans-still-being-considered/82600204/), as the Michigan DEQ is still reviewing plans. Residents wrote letters to Clay Township Supervisor Artie Bryson, with the vast majority of them in opposition to the bridge.
