Title: Name the location
Post by: roadman65 on February 26, 2016, 03:36:48 PM
I have been watching the reruns of a 1970's crime drama called Mannix and noticed there is a vertical lift bridge that is featured in the opening sequence.  It has leading character Joe Mannix, played by Mike Connors running across a vertical lift bridge in the roadway's center lane.  It obviously taken from one of the episodes in which he appears to be running from a vehicle that is after him.

Does anyone know where this was filmed?  I know the show is over 40 years old and many on here were not even born yet when it first aired.   I was just wondering, being its in syndication, that someone might of saw the show's opening sequence and maybe knew where it was as it may still be a bridge in use today

Above is the link to a clip showing the structure just to see what I am talking about.

It's the CA 47 Schuyler F. Heim Bridge. That "Slippery When Wet" sign might be the same one as in the clip. Also, the "WAIT" and "HERE |" pavement markings are just behind the GSV car.

Thanks.

It looks like it was filmed the other way from where your GSV is.  The railroad bridge is to the right in the show's clip, and where you have it on GSV is to the left.

Nonetheless, you found it.  Great to see some bridges are still the same, almost.  The railroad bridge is replaced as in the first was a bascule bridge and the latest is another lift span.

I typed "bridge in mannix intro" into Google and "Commodore Schuyler F. Heim Bridge" was the first link.

It doesn't take a genius to use Google.

It is also OK to ask the same question here.

Don't worry, I got the whole social skill thing down. I work at a hotel (in other words, customer service). Google is a nice relief for me, honestly.
