Title: Quality of Line Painting
Post by: RobbieL2415 on May 10, 2016, 04:26:31 PM
Are there any state DOTs that notoriously do a sloppy job with line painting (i.e. blotches of paint on the road, incorrect line thickness, missing rumble strips, etc.)?

PennDOT, notably the region that covers Erie. I-90 looks worse than some parking lots.

NYSDOT Region 5 had one year in 2010 or so that was very sloppy. Mostly, if not exclusively, two-lane state routes.

When ALDOT transitioned to useing black and white stripes on the bridges in this area recently, I noticed a lot of the stripes look rather sloppily applied.

Massachusetts Route 3A, not necessarily sloppy in painting, but a complete lack of lines.  When I first moved to the area, I thought it was a two lane road.  It's FOUR lanes.  The white lines separating the two lanes in each direction, in many places, aren't painted at all.

Both IDOT and the Illinois Tollway are good. Occasionally you'll see the messy line or multiple paintings of the same area

I've noticed that ADOT likes to leave the remnants of old stripes from construction projects scattered all over the freeways here, notably on loop 101 in north Phoenix and I-10 just west of loop 101. Whenever the sun is low, its nearly impossible sometimes to distinguish between the current stripes and the ghosts of stripes past.

Been pretty good here, lines were just painted not too long ago as soon as spring hit. My city has been using more and more thermoplastic in newer areas, so painting won't be necessary there. The thermoplastic is holding up pretty good in one area since it was installed in September 2014.
