AR 226 (http://www.wmcactionnews5.com/story/32276435/neighbors-excited-for-highway-226-bypass-to-open) bypass from Cash to near Jonesboro expected to open Thursday.
I'd like to see how it will tie in at US 49. When I was through there a couple months ago, it looked like a big cluster fluck.
Was the two-lane AR 226 a heavily congested roadway? I assume that was the basis for the conversion to four lanes.

Not really, but the new road will eliminate an at-grade railroad crossing and will link US 67 to US 49 near Jonesboro. So it has potential to be heavily traveled in the future.
FINALLY!!!
IIRC, this will become I-730 if I-30 is extended up the US 67/US 167 corridor. Unless I-57 is extended down said corridor, then what would it become?

AR 226. (It's not fully controlled access.)

Did they preserve the ROW in case they want to convert it into an Interstate later on?

Didn't look like it. There are 4-5 county roads at-grade, plus AR 18
I thought that as long as they keep businesses from getting too close to the highway, they could always build interchanges in the future if they need to.I could be wrong about this.

My guess is they will wait to see how traffic is.
Arkansas, as with several states, doesn't hold very well to access management and access control.

That's what i was thinking. Hopefully they do it on this highway. Otherwise in the future, they would have to build a bypass for this bypass. :pan:
Is the new AR-226 signed as such along Southwest Dr up to I-555? Google still shows Wood Springs Rd as 226. Also, did the 226 Spur designation disappear?

A guess would be I-557 or maybe I-357.

To my knowledge, 226 ends at US 49. I am guessing 226 Spur is defunct, but would have to field verify unless out AHTD member has an answer?

I'd hold off on Interstate speculation on the AR 226 corridor until (a) an Interstate designation for the US 67 freeway is "set in stone", and (b) definitive Interstate-level upgrade plans for 226 are actually proposed. Otherwise, it's just an updated concept based on previous speculation.
Is there any chance of I-555 being extended up to Walnut Ridge or is it supposed to permanently end in Jonesboro?
No idea about 555, but on (the much-hated) Google Maps, it shows Hwy 226 on its new alignment. However, it also shows 226 on Cash Hwy., and on Woodspring Rd. both north and south of Cash Hwy.

As far as 226, I alerted Google maps about the new alignment being open. I've not been back to check on 226Spur.
I also alerted them about US 67 being open, but they botched re-numbering.
According to the new AHTD 2016 map, old 226 east of the expressway is now SPUR 226. What was Spur 226 is now "main" 226.
So, 226 appears to intersect US 49, then head back north on old Spur 226/AR 226
The portion between the new expressway and the old southern terminus of AR 349 is now AR 349. The remaining bit of E/W is now Spur 226. Source: the AHTD PIO emailed me the memo that went out detailing the changes.

Thanks for the update. Guess I read the map wrong.
